'Mission: Impossible 4 – Ghost Protocol' Trailer Features Tom Cruise, Jeremy Renner (VIDEO)

Ethan Hunt is back. And he has a new friend.

Or so he thinks.

Tom Cruise returns for a fourth chapter in the "Mission: Impossible" franchise, the Brad Bird-directed "Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol." Alongside Cruise is the eventual heir to the series, Jeremy Renner, who plays the mysterious Brandt, an agent whose allegiances Hunt is unsure of as the film takes shape.

Filmed in Dubai, it sets up Hunt and his crew on a seemingly impossible escape mission, with any slipup meaning they'll be labeled terrorists. Bird makes his live action directorial debut after helming a number of hit Pixar films, including the animated actioner, "The Incredibles."

Cruise is seen executing a number of insane stunts throughout, including some major building scaling. It wasn't tough to get him to do them, Bird said.

"He actually lives for that stuff. He loves it," Bird told MTV News recently. "Loves it. The day we finished shooting on the Burj, everyone suddenly relaxed because nothing had happened, no one had gotten injured or died, and the only one who was bummed out was Tom because he had to come down from the building. He loves that stuff."

"Mission: Impossible 3" director JJ Abrams is back as a producer.

The movie hits theaters on December 16th.

First one was good, next 2 were lousy - this one I am counting on because of Brad Bird.

Definitely these last 2 decades were "the sequel decades". Isn't there a creative film director/producer in HollyBozo anymore?

You gotta give it to the guy, Tom Cruise knows how to put out a good flick worth the money to see, which are few and far between these days. Even though he's got a few bad ones in there, his track record is pretty solid.

This looks fun.

I just never found him credible as an actor.....even back to his earliest films ...like his smiles weren't real or something..It just seems like he says something to see if you believe it or not...kinda creepy...

Absolutely love Tom Cruise movies. It's amazing how much the guy has contributed to movies as a whole. Great trailer as well. Gonna have to see this one one the wide screen.

Im noticing a lot a pretty pathetic haters in this thread. Id suggest you lose a hundred pounds and get out and do a few physical things. Believe me you would appreciate how physical this guys acting is a lot more. Especially at his age.

More Xenu-tia. Blah blah. We don't buy Cruise we must be poor or out of shape. Wrong. We like believable actors.

Watch movies like Magnolia, Collateral, Vanilla Sky and Eyes Wide Shut before trying to say he's not a believable actor. He's got two oscar nominations for performances that were beyond believable, which last time I checked is two more nominations than anyone here...

Cheesy PR placement, HP.
Daring stunts? CGI.

I'm not one to defend Tom Cruise, but you come across as ignorant making baseless accusations when not only is it mentioned in the article, but there is plenty of information on the web and there were news stories months ago showing Tom Cruise himself performing these stunts on the world's tallest building.

I am still angry that the next Star Trek movie got pushed back so that Abrams could work on this stinker. I blame Cruise if the Mayan calender thing is right and I miss out on the next Star Trek film.. I need a Quinto as Spock fix.

Im curious. What exactly about Tom Cruise turns your sex signals on? I mean Im hetero so I don't see it. From your gay perspective what are you picking up on that makes you think Tom Cruise is one of you?
12:20 PM on 06/29/2011
Good question. I'd like to know the answer to that. I never thought Tom was a gay guy.

To the person who said that's Thandi Newton, it's not, the actress is Paula Patton. Anyway, this movie looks like Tom Cruise is back to what he does best and I would pay to see this. I've always liked Tom Cruise...very underestimated actor. Who cares what he does in his personal life. It's still a free country and he can participate in any religion he chooses. His movies are all pretty good. We watched Knight and Day and for the life of me, I didn't understand why critics bashed it. It was very entertaining. Not a Cameron Diaz fan, but even she was funny.

I agree a) it is Paula Patton, b) who cares what Tom does in his personal life, and c)I don't understand why critics bashed Knight and Day so hard either. I am excited to see MI4 in December, have been a fan of it for a long time. BTW, I still can't get over Tom Cruise role in Tropic Thunder.

Thank you...Knight and Day was a good look. I also agree, that Tom Cruise was hysterical in Tropic Thunder.
