'Swear To God': Will Ferrell To Star In Adam McKay Hedge Fund Film

Will Ferrell

Having skewered just about every professional sport possible, and so thoroughly devastated the news business, Will Ferrell is focusing his brand of goofy humor and satire on a truly deserving target: the wrecked economy, and those who did the wrecking.

Having already touched on small stories about American devastation in the face of corporate monoliths in 2006's "Stranger Than Fiction" and this year's "Everything Must Go," not to mention his guest turn in "The Office" as a wild middle manager, Ferrell will take on the hedge fund industry in a new comedy, "Swear To God."

Deadline reports that Warner Bros. has bought a pitch from "Due Date" and "King of the Hill" writers Alan Cohen and Alan Freedland, which will star Ferrell as "a narcissistic hedge fund manager who thinks he has seen God."

To be fair, that may not really distinguish him a large segment of that particular industry, though one wonders just how close the character will be to his famous George W. Bush impersonation.

Adam McKay, who directed Ferrell in "Anchorman," "Talladega Nights" and "Step Brothers," and has produced even more of his films, will helm this project.

Ferrell also recently signed on to "Turkey Bowl," a Thanksgiving-themed comedy in which he'll co-star with Mark Wahlberg.

YES!! Finally lampooning those that truly deserve it. It should be hilarious. But somehow infuriating at the same time.

Lamest 3D ever. I don't know why I wore those glasses for two hours.

Yawn,

Nobody cares about this fo.ols/has-been attempts at physical comedy. Why doesnt he do a parody of his uber-rich Hollywood rich friends and their never-ending leftist remodeling of America.

Oh for gods sake!! You are going to defend HEDGE FUND MANAGERS? Do you really think that is a political issue? It is truly a "protected" class and a security issue. Has nothing to do with the left or right.

Considering that the largest teacher's unions invest solely in Hedge Funds, thriving or dying by chasing the riskiest investments/alpha, I wouldnt suspect that liberals to be reflexively against them. If it is okay for the unions to invests 10s of billions of their members contributions in Hedge Funds, what is your problem with them?

Of course, the unions heads likely have some reciprocal relationship with these Hedge Fund managers. Also, as observed in California, the unions pensions losses are socialized ,as they are by law backed-up automatically and to 100% value by the strapped tax payers of California who have to fund 115K/yr retirement income to lifeguards (Search the NYTimes last week for the article).

Just like Barney Frank said in his coin-flipping analogy about certain power-players financial risks. For the municipal unions it means "heads I win-tails I dont lose." Very appropriate to the unions investing in Hedge Funds.

I just wish he'd go back to SNL, which needs him badly, where he was a lot funnier than his movies.

Ehhhh, I dunno. I really love the films Ferrell has made with McKay, but the last one -- THE OTHER GUYS -- really bogged down when it tried to address the current financial crisis. Stick with the funny.
