Chihuahua Turned Sheepdog 'Can Do It All'

First Posted: 06/29/11 11:01 AM ET Updated: 11/15/11 06:12 AM ET

LONDON -- Nancy's not your typical sheepdog.

This once mangy Chihuahua was brought into a London animal home two years ago with a skin disease so severe that she had to be hand-reared by a shelter employee.

Now the 2 1/2 pound (approximately 1 kilogram) rescue dog has been filmed bounding after sheep several times her size, chasing them around a small enclosure in southern England.

The video released by the Battersea Dogs & Cats Home is an attempt to "prove that rescue dogs really can do anything," owner Ali Taylor said in a statement Tuesday.

Taylor said she trained Nancy following several trips to various farms, but cautioned against others deploying their dogs for sheep herding duties.

Do it only with "proper supervision from an expert," she said.

that dog isn't doing anything except harrassing those sheep. It barks and chases them until it loses interest and wanders off... it's merely its miniscule brain that forgets what it did three seconds ago that makes it look like it's a planned activity on the dogs part. It's not. The poor sheep are cowering around their handler, and the real sheep dog cops a serve from the psychotic half pint too. All pound dogs are mentally disturbed by the fact they've been in the pound, and it's not doing anyone a service by allowing them out again.

That'll do! I can tell you that a Chihuahua is one of the closest related dogs to a Grey Wolf. If you compare a Chihuahua skull to a grey wolf skull they are almost identical. There was no interbreeding for centuries before they were found in South America.

Animals can sense that and they will listen to the Chihuahua.

Not surprising, dogs regardless of size are dogs. In fact his speed and size makes him better equipped to do the job because the republicans, oops I meant sheep are very docile and amenable.
