Is your husband or boyfriend's father a cheater? You might want to find out.
A new study found that sons are likely to follow in their cheating fathers' footsteps. According to the Czech team that conducted the research, men were more likely to stray if their father had been unfaithful while they were growing up, the Daily Mail reports.
Women, however, were not affected by their mother's infidelity in the same way, explained Jan Havlicek of Charles University in Prague, during his presentation to the European Human Behaviour and Evolution Association. What boys took away from seeing their father cheat was "what was appropriate and what they could get away with."
The study involved 86 couple, and the members of each pair were questioned individually about their relationships, attitudes towards sex, family backgrounds and their infidelities.
The research found that men cheat not because they're unsatisfied with their current relationship but rather because they want more sex and more sexual partners. Women, on the other hand, are more likely to be unfaithful when there is a problem with the relationship.
But Havlicek also told the Daily Mail he believes women cheat to find a new partner.
“In some cases, it’s better to have someone who’s not perfect than to be alone – particularly when you have children,” he said. “'But in the meantime you can look around for some other options. Many of the women we interviewed said that’s just what they were doing.”
