Duchess Of Cambridge Arrives In Canada On Thursday (PHOTOS)

The Huffington Post     First Posted: 06/30/2011 11:08 am   Updated: 08/30/2011 5:12 am

Thursday morning, the Duchess of Cambridge demonstrated some excellent runway style -- on the airport runway, of course. The former-Kate Middleton and her husband Prince William departed from London's Heathrow Airport for their Canadian and L.A. tour.

For her first trip ever to the States, Catherine wore a tasteful if not a tad bit uninspiring navy jacket by Canadian label Smythe Les Vestes paired with navy Roland Mouret dress and basic pumps by Manolo Blahnik. The standout was her luxe leather bag, which Elle UK identified as the Mulberry Polly Push Lock Tote (which of course will now sell out in a matter of minutes, despite the $1,400 price tag).

As expected, Catherine changed into a fresh look as she and Prince William deplaned in Ottawa and chatted with Canadian officials. The Duchess had her enviable head of hair tied back and donned Erdem's Cecile dress from the Canadian designer's Resort 2012 collection, as well as shoes by LK Bennett and the same beige clutch she carried at Wimbledon and at Prince Philip's 90th birthday service.

In the evening, Catherine stopped by an informal reception for young Canadian volunteers, where she ditched the lace for a printed Issa dress we first saw the day before her wedding. She completed her outfit with LK Bennett wedges.

Quick Poll

I prefer:

The jacket-dress combo is more royal -- stately and classy!

The lace dress is chic -- way to arrive in style!

The printed Issa frock -- nice to see a repeat!

Its odd to see people bashing US celebrities and saying how classy Kate and WIlliam are- you cant make a fair comparison - their official purposes are too different.

In the same way you wouldnt compare President Obama to Pauly D or Mike from 'Jersey Shore.'
You cant compare Kate to a Kardashian type 'celebrity.' Its not fair to either of them.

Sure, Kate and the Krdashians are all well known and are in the newspapers, but they have very different roles.

Kate and Kim Kardiashin are very different - don't like Kim much but Kate is comparable to Grace Mugabe not really a celebrity - in all fairness to Kim

OH and for those that say this lot are only "ceremonial" in spite of getting no questions asked taxpayer money:

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2010673/H-R-H-THE-PRINCE-MINISTER-Charles-accused-meddling-summons-seven-senior-Ministers-Clarence-House-just-months.html#comments

Charles has summoned numerous members of parliament to his house (so much for only being "ceremonial") in order to stop them from releasing information on his expenses and preventing the freedom of information act from being released - whats the difference between him and Mugabe who controls state newspapers etc

The difference is that he had to beg and plead and whine, and the MP's will still do exactly what they think best and unlike Mugabe he gets laughed at in the press, you know you really ought to spend time in Britain, you'd find things are radically different than you imagine in your dank, foetid little mind.....and no that wasn't an invitation......

NOT TRUE!!...you've proved time and time again that you're "their most devoted stalker" and you're still sitting firmly in your basement.

Don't confuse me with Kate Windsor - I would never even follow someone down the road - let alone jump on a plane to Chile to try and be near them before I had ever met them

She looks fantastic, I don't think anything would look bad on her frame. My only criticism would be with the lace dress, the lining and her shoes would have looked better if they were closer in color. Either both white, or both ecru/tan.

Love, love, love the lacy dress. It's gorgeous on her, she should wear more boat neck things.

Best of all, no hat. The hats really are too much with the long hair worn loose. Her hair's beautiful, why not let it star? If she has to wear a hat, that would be the time to wear a chignon or something. At least, that's my humble enough opinion.

I would completely hate to be in the spotlight all the time! I don't know about the rest of the world but I need at least 2 days out of week ALONE in a cold room with a nice warm blanket, and a good book or movie. Maybe I'm just lazy...

this morning i was watching the news and the car in which they rode pulled up to somewhere they were visiting. william got out on the passenger side by himself and catherine got out on the drivers side and had to walk around the car while william was shaking hands and she walked up and stood behind him. all i could think of was what was that about. is this marriage just a show, an arrangement. maybe they have been together for so long they don't even show
the slightest bit of romance. all they do is smile those big giant fake smiles at one another. they seems like more of a very good friends with benefits for both of them. i thought newly weds can't keep their hands off one another future king or not. the whole thing is starting to look fake and phoney. she sold her soul to be his wife and he knows it.

Sorry you are SO disappointed. It must really suck to see people behave as they are and not be able to control it to suit you.

Let me guess, you're American right?...Americans being the only nationality which time and time again on forums like this, will blithely present their own imaginings and fantasies as facts.  I blame your media it's been doing the same thing to your nation for years and now it seems to have become part of your national psyche.

they have to be one way in public but I'm sure they are another in private as it should be. why should we all be privvy to their 'romance' PDA is overrated. Kudos to them for showing self restraint. you don't know what happened in the car on the way :)

Reading some of the comments shows that most Americans are confused by the role of the monarchy in Canada. The Queen is head of State, a powerless figurehead, who is supposed to represent the positive aspects of our nation. The Prime Minister is the guy with all the power. He is elected. In Canada people may feel emotional attachment to the Queen (since she represents us and does not have any power over our lives) but we generaliy (unlike many Americans) have no emotional attachment to our actual leader, the Prime Minister. Thus there is no great pomp and ceremony (no "Hail to the Chief" and reverential comments when he enters a hall or gives a speech) associated with the Prime Minister. He is just some shmuck that we elected to do a job and will get rid of when he isn't doing it. I don't mind the monarchy because I believe the separation of the role of "Head of State" from the role of "Head of Government" is a good thing. Also Elizabeth 2 is the Queen of Canada--when speaking of her role in Canada (she also happens to be the Queen of England) therefore one is not correct to say that the Queen of England is the "Head of State" in Canada. Actually the Queen of Canada is our Head of State.

I always think she looks super pretty and there is this elegance around her. Love her!
Jacket and dress combo is my fav! I don't like her hair up as much. Its so shiny and healthy, its a shame to put it up.

You really don't expect the Duchess to wear the same outfit after a long plane trip, especially for a much publicized appearance, we gals wrinkle belted in a seat belt, Geez! She has loads of changes packed for each venue, as I would.
