LAPD Asks Lady Gaga, Kim Kardashian To Tweet About 405 Closure

New Job: Traffic Reporter?

UPDATED -- More "big names" doing their part to warn Los Angeles about the upcoming 405 freeway closure: former CHiPs star Erik Estrada.

PREVIOUSLY -- When LA's 405 Freeway closes next month, the authorities want everyone to know, so the Los Angeles Police Department is trying to recruit some unlikely traffic reporters: Lady Gaga, Ashton Kutcher, Kim Kardashian and Demi Moore.

The LAPD wants the celebrities-- who have a combined twitter following of more than 30 million people -- to tweet about the highway closure.

The LAPD said it is making contact with representatives for Lady Gaga (nearly 11.3 million followers), Ashton Kutcher and Demi Moore (7 million and 3.7 million respectively) and Kim Kardashian ( 8 million followers). None of the celebrities have sent out warning tweets yet, but officials hope they will do so closer to the closure dates.

Karen Rayner, an officer with the LAPD, told NBC LA, "We're utilizing TV and Radio, but not everyone uses those mediums so we're reaching out through social media contacts."

A 10-mile section of the 405 Freeway is going to be shutdown for 53 hours between July 15th and the 17th, a weekend that has become known as "carmageddon." Approximately 500,000 vehicles travel each weekend on that stretch of the freeway that time of year.

Could these celebs be effective traffic reporters and ease the pain of Carmageddon? Let us know in the comments.
