Special Election Set To Fill Weiner's Seat

ALBANY, N.Y. — New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo has set special elections for former Rep. Anthony Weiner's congressional seat and six vacant seats in the state Assembly for Sept. 13, coinciding with statewide primaries.

The 9th Congressional District includes parts of Brooklyn and Queens. According to NBC New York, potential candidates include Democratic state Assemblyman Rory Lancman, Republican City Councilman Eric Ulrich, Democratic Councilman Mark Weprin, former Democratic Councilman Eric Gioia, former Democratic Councilwoman Melinda Katz and Democratic Assemblyman David Weprin.

The other Assembly seats are in Oneida County, Erie County, Brooklyn, Manhattan and two in Queens.

Weiner resigned in June after he admitted, after earlier denials, that he sent inappropriate messages and photos to women online.
