A woman found dead in a Massachusetts public pool Tuesday was likely dead for days, police have said.
Marie Joseph drowned in the pool in Fall River, Mass. on Sunday, but her body was not discovered until Tuesday night. The pool was open to the public during this time, and two teams of city health inspectors made inspection visits to the pool on the Monday and Tuesday. Their reports noted only that the water seemed "cloudy".
Britain's Daily Mail reports that a nine-year-old boy who was with Mrs Joseph on Sunday went to tell a life guard she had fallen into the pool - but was reportedly ignored.
The entire staff of the pool where Joseph drowned has been placed on administrative leave while state authorities carry out an investigation into the incident.
Correction: An earlier version of this story transposed two letters in the victim's name to read Marie Joesph.
