Pierre Koenig's 'Henbest Residence' in Rancho Palos Verdes is on the market.

A lovely example of understated, mid-century modern design, its 2,744 square feet contain four bedrooms and two-and-a-half bathrooms. The main living area--which comprises a kitchen, dining area, family room, and a separate formal living room--is flanked by opposing glass walls that allow natural light to fill the space. The wood and brick features look particularly striking with the home's lush garden. The Japanese-style landscaping complements the folding-plate roofline, creating an intriguing, almost pagoda-like image. Koenig's practical yet pleasing vision has been carefully preserved, as the design has remained almost unchanged since it was constructed in 1966.

Koenig has an impressive legacy among modern architects, especially on the West Coast. He designed two of the most famous Case Study Houses, #21 and #22. His works have received multiple awards from the American Institute of Architects, and before his death he was elected an Honorary Fellow in the Royal Institute of British Architects, according to the USC Department of Architecture's biography on him.

A Los Feliz home for which Koenig designed the guesthouse--the main house was done by Gregory Ain--is also on the market.

An offer has been made on the $1,450,000 listing, but the home is not yet in escrow. Photos are provided courtesy of Realtor.com.
