Independence Day 2011: Google Logo Honors The 4th Of July (PICTURE)

Google
Google's 4th of July doodle for 2011.

Google's gone patriotic in honor of July 4, Independence Day in the United States.

Google's homepage logo depicts a compressed map of the U.S., from San Francisco on the west coast to New York on the east coast, and everything in between.

Though a highway separates the east half of the map from the west and divides the Google logo down the middle, a rainbow joins the two coasts and passes over animated representations of Chicago's Willis Tower (aka Sears Tower), a family farm, a suburban home and other iconic American images.

The doodle's west coast is bright and sunny, while the night has fallen on the doodle's east coast and fireworks can be seen in the sky over the Statue of Liberty.

Visit Google's home page on the 4th of July to check the doodle out, or take a peek at the screenshot (below).

Once again I want to reiterate that I am not homophobic whatsoever and have myself supported the LGBT movement in my state as I have many gay & lesbian friends so please forgo the comments about me hating these people or saying I am trying to repress the LGBT movement. My comments are strictly pertaining to the banner and its lack of representation of this glorious and most historic day in our countries history. Thank you and I look forward to your comments.

It did not rain that day, but legend has it that on July 4, 1826, the 50th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, a rainbow appeared in the sky across the eastern seaboard, symbolizing God's acceptance of the USA. The rainbow has been used in history for more purposes than to celebrate the LGBT movement.

I am all for Gay Pride and the recent advances of the LGBT movement as I believe they are long overdue. However, this Google banner offends me personally, and by that I mean only as an American citizen. Independence Day is a day for celebrating American Pride, but this banner is so apparently celebrating Gay Pride that when I saw it, I had to look up if there was some other relevant event that has occurred on this historic day. From the rainbow, to representing the San Francisco Bridge (One of the largest LGBT communities), and even a horse with a cowboy hat on (don't attempt to belittle the readers on here and try to explain the relevance of Middle America and their cowboy history because this is a horrible representation). They have gone so far, in an attempt to appease a minority of the population, that they even forgot to place any representation of an American flag except the Red, White, and Blue letters. If this was a banner to represent the "people" of America, why are there not iconic representations for African Americans and the civil rights movement, or Women and the Equal Rights Amendment, among many others.

Is there any website that has all the Google logos that have been used? I tried doing a search @ Google, but couldn't find it.

I did a search for "Google Banners," and this site came up. It has every single Goodle Doodle (logo) that have been used and its corresponding date..... http://www.google.com/logos/

Must be nice to be raking in enough dough to pay somebody to redraw your logo every week. :-)

Not pictured, The Capitol.
Good. They deserve a Time Out for recent misbehaviors.

I am really glad Google worked the symbol of gay pride into the doodle as well.

I love it. I'm impressed. I may not live in the States anymore, but, I miss it sometimes.

Willis Tower, not Sears. Renamed in 2009 I believe.

That's Willis' problem. Everyone knows it as the Sears tower. :-)
