Entenmann's Twitter Fail Inadvertently References Casey Anthony Verdict

Entenmanns Casey Anthony Not Guilty

The Huffington Post   First Posted: 07/05/11 06:53 PM ET Updated: 09/04/11 06:12 AM ET

Most people on Twitter who see the hashtag #notguilty today will think immediately of the sensational Casey Anthony murder verdict.

Unless you're pastry maker Entenmann's, that is. The baked goods company tweeted "Who's #notguilty about eating all the tasty treats they want?!"

The company soon realized its mistake, and deleted the tweet (screencapped at TechCrunch), following up with the message,”Sorry everyone, we weren’t trying to reference the trial in our tweet! We should have checked the trending hashtag first” and then adding “Our #notguilty tweet was insensitive, albeit completely unintentional. We are sincerely sorry.”

Though the (apparently) neglectful tweet's since been corrected, the incident serves as yet another reminder that one should think before tweeting.

During Egypt's uprising earlier this year, the Twitter handle for clothing designer Kenneth Cole misused the trending #Cairo hashtag to promote the company's spring line. Check this and other corporate face-palms by viewing our slideshows of the worst-ever Twitter PR fails.

I see the thin-skinned overly PC crowd is out in full force with their faux rage over a non-issue.  I'm sorry, I didn't get the memo that for the entirety of July 5th, 2011, nobody was allowed to use the term "not guilty" except to reference Casey Anthony.

GET this trash out of the TECH section!!! My only haven from the media storm (and golf ball sized hail to boot!), and you have to go and ruin my perfectly good Geekdom. It's like forcing all those horrid "Captain Kirk and Any Woman" romances into almost ever episode of Star Trek. Some things are sacred!

Agree. And not sure this "neglectful tweet" is even worth making an article (though short) about it. Must be a slow news day for you.

Yes. Ask Enron about valuation versus tangible value

Poor bakery! Anyone who has twitter needs to really think before tweeting. It shouldn't be so hard.
