Luis Gutierrez Urges Obama To Halt Deportation Of DREAMers (VIDEO)

WASHINGTON -- Rep. Luis Gutierrez called last week for President Barack Obama to stop deporting undocumented young people, urging him to say, "I'm not going to deport another DREAM kid."

Gutierrez (D-Ill.), a popular Latino congressman from the president's home state, is pushing for him to halt the deportation of young men and women who would be eligible for the DREAM Act. The bill, which failed in the Senate last December, would allow some undocumented young people who entered the United States as children to gain legal status by attending college or joining the military.

"Don't wait for the Senate, don't wait for the House. Don't wait for the Republicans and the Democrats to get together to bring justice and fairness," Gutierrez said at a Chicago immigration rally on June 30. "Sign an executive order today to stop the deportation of all young people that would benefit from the DREAM Act, Mr. President."

Gutierrez has repeatedly criticized Obama for continuing deportation proceedings for DREAM Act-eligible young people despite saying publicly they are not the focus of his administration's immigration enforcement efforts. They are frequently placed in removal proceedings and taken to the brink of deportation, then allowed to stay if they can generate a public outcry.

"They stop the deportation when you do a little petition. When Change.org does a petition and gets a few hundred signatures, they stop the deportation," Gutierrez told reporters at the Netroots Nation conference in June. "Don't tell me you ain't got the power."

As the fight over the DREAM Act has continued, Obama has attempted to gain the support of Latinos, who by and large support the type of comprehensive immigration reform that he has so far been unable to deliver.

Gutierrez told reporters after the Chicago event that young people who have mobilized in support of the DREAM Act should not be jerked around.

"They're young, they're impatient, they're smart, they're energetic, and they're not going to allow anyone to bullshit them," he said. "They're grounded, and you know what? They're courageous too. They've shown that."

Here we have the opportunity to increase the numbers of good American citizens and we are throwing them away. Why is this craziness? These young people are our future. We should love and encourage them and help them in a quest for a better county today then we had yesterday.

If these "young people" are our future, we're in serious trouble.

Note that invaders up to age 35 would receive amnesty under the DREAM Act.

At the first U.S. Senate committee hearing ever held on sny of The DREAM Acts ~ (R-Iowa) U.S. Senator Grassley's exchange with DHS, Janet Napolitano ~

"Grassley questioned whether the Department of Homeland Security was bypassing Congress with a recent memo that reminded field agents to focus on top priorities, such as undocumented immigrants who have been convicted of felonies.

He also pressed Napolitano on whether the administration will offer administrative relief for young men and women who would be eligible for the DREAM Act, an executive power that Democrats have repeatedly asked the president to use.

Napolitano said President Barack Obama has rejected the idea of using administrative action to stop deportation of DREAM Act-eligible students.

"The policy of the department is there can be no categorical amnesty and there will not be, and that is why Congress needs to act," Napolitano said."

The same level of pathetic we were at when our lawmakers and leaders ignored international treaties and the same as when those same leaders and lawmakers won't enforce our own laws to protect our own jobs and schools. It's a very high level of pathetic and both parties have been overachieving at being pathetic for years and years.

The people of Chicago are with you Congressman! We want to turn this economy around? Give young, entrepreneurial, immigrants the opportunity to live the American dream. We're in this fight together! Keep up the pressure on the President. The only reason FDR implemented the Great Society to the extent he did is because working class people put pressure on him to make change. You're the voice of the working class congressman and I applaud you!

"Give young, entrepreneurial, immigrants" these people are illegal aliens, not immigrants. They are citizens of other countries who have been living in the US without permission, give them nothing. Return them to their own countries. Every illegal alien in the US takes a spot which should have gone to a US citizen.

Now, there's a story here for investigative journalists: namely, who's in this 'who's who.s" list of legislative 'scholars' funded under this program? Has anyone every audited it? What are its written objectives and actual performance?

Have fun.

I'm in Gutierrez's district, and I have received no representation while he continues to rally, against my best wishes, for illegality and senselessness. Meanwhile, I have actual constituent issues that need to be addressed.
04:35 PM on 07/06/2011
You have constituent issues? Call the office genius. 773-342-0774. Gutierrez's office was the first office (and to my knowledge) the only office to have received Community Organization designation because of the variety of services they provide.

Guitierrez again shows the undisciplined nature of Progressives. They give no elbow room to their leaders and are constantly surprised after many years that they have not been able to move
the process forward. He reminds me of Choi, attempting vainly to get their names in the media, but not advancing their cause. They appear to have no self discipline, no stability, no sense of the steps needed to get from here to there. They tink it must always be a straight line.

The DREAM Act is amnesty, and that is why I was always against the DREAM Act, but, I’ll give in to the DREAM Act under two conditions. First, the parents who bought their illegal alien children here illegally MUST be deported. Second, the parents can NEVER return to this country and the student can NEVER sponsor them or any other family member that would start a chain migration. The student will start the DREAM Act as soon as the parents are deported. This, I believe, is a good compromise. The students will be rewarded for something that was not their fault and the parents will pay for their crime of entering this country illegally and putting their child in this position. If you do not like this compromise, then the parents can just take their children back to the country from which they came. AGREE? If not, let all of them pack their bags and get the hell out of this country. They DO NOT belong here.

Illegal immigration is a cancer, it has to be eradicated not tolerated.

Agreed ~ fair give & take

Since estimated 2 million are currently The DREAM Act eligible AND another 65,000 eligible each & every year until there are no illegal students are brought into the USA or are left in the USA ~ eternity

Indeed the DREAM Act is amnesty; it is a LEGAL procedure like there is amnesty in our tax code
National Socialists like JT Ready and Russell Pearce are the cancer to be eradicated immediately with comprehensive immigration reform.

Did you catch the phrase at the end of BOTH the House & Senate's The DREAM Act of 2011 descriptions? "and for other purposes'?

Do you think that if people like Gutierrez and posters like "Closer to the Edge" would change their opinion of open borders if they had illegals living with them?

Take these Congressman and have a few families live with them for a few weeks. They will be calling ICE within a week.
