Casey Anthony Juror: 'Sick To Our Stomachs' Over Verdict

First Posted: 07/06/11 09:45 PM ET Updated: 09/05/11 06:12 AM ET

Jennifer Ford, a 32-year-old nursing student who served as juror number 3 on the Casey Anthony murder trial, told ABC News that she and other jurors were "sick to our stomachs" after acquitting Anthony of killing her 2-year-old daughter, Caylee.

"Everyone wonders why we didn't speak to the media right away," Ford told ABC News. "It was because we were sick to our stomach to get that verdict. We were crying and not just the women. It was emotional and we weren't ready. We wanted to do it with integrity and not contribute to the sensationalism of the trial."

In addition to being found not guilty of murder Tuesday, Anthony, 25, was found not guilty of aggravated child abuse and aggravated manslaughter of a child. She was, however, convicted on charges of misleading law enforcement.

"I did not say she was innocent," Ford told ABC News. "I just said there was not enough evidence. If you cannot prove what the crime was, you cannot determine what the punishment should be."

Russell Huekler, one of five alternate jurors who were present for all of the testimony, also spoke with ABC News and said even though he did not get a chance to vote, he agreed with the verdict.

"The prosecution failed to prove their case and there was reasonable doubt. Again, they didn't show us how Caylee died. They didn't show us a motive. I'm sorry people feel that way. ... These were 17 total jurors. They really listened to this case and kept an open mind," Huekler said.

Casey Anthony will be back in court Thursday for sentencing on four misdemeanor counts of lying to police. Each count carries a maximum sentence of one year in county jail. The judge has the option of sentencing Anthony consecutively or concurrently. Anthony will receive credit for time served in jail since her 2008 arrest, meaning she could walk free.

The interview with Casey Anthony juror Jennifer Ford will air on 'ABC World News with Diane Sawyer' and ABC's 'Primetime Nightline' Wednesday night.

I'm not so into the lynch-mob style postings about this; if there isn't enough evidence there isn't enough evidence...that's the way the current law system works. Things are not always as they appear...unless you were actually witnessing all the events happening there is no 100% sure-fire way to know the real truth.
I'm not saying I believe the accused is either guilty or not-guilty, I just am following what I have read so far about the case.

If they were sick to their stomachs, then it sounds as if there was no reasonable doubt:

Jury instructions: Such a doubt must not influence you to return a verdict of not guilty if you have an abiding conviction of guilt.

The whole Casey Anthony trial is like a dark stain on America.

If I am not mistaken, a person can be convicted of murder even when the body has never been found. The exact cause of death is not a reason for a person to get away with murder! It was because of her reckless, disrespect of a corpse (which is a crime) that no cause of death could be determined. It appears that Casey has no conscience but I hope that we are wrong and she will have to live her life, remembering what she did to her child!

Blah, Blah, BLAH!!!! If you and the other jurors were serious about making the right decision then you all should have thought about it a little while longer. The verdict was a bad idea and it let a killer go free.

As many people that are outraged by the verdict, just as many of you used a cockamamie excuse to get out of jury duty. Remember that and save your outrage.

That is so true. I admit, I have gotten out of it more than once but after this case, I will never do that again. Hopefully other's will make that same commitment in honor of Caylee.

The verdict was not dumb. What is dumb is that Casey and her family have been convicted in the court of TV junkies. I agree with the verdict and there could be no other with the evidence presented. I do not believe for one minute that little Caylee was murdered by her mother or anyone else. I do believe this was a tragic accident. As far as Casey's behavior after the fact - well- unusual to say the least. I do feel that her connection with Caylee was different than from most mothers. Casey's mother Cindy was obviously the primary care taker and Casey was in some dysfunctional way- a sibling. I have seen siblings act very odd and reckless when they lose a sister or brother. Casey is not guilty of murder.

I see you believe in fairy tales and the toothfairy too. Ask yourself this one question. Who duct tapes the mouth and nose of a drowned person?

do you recall caseys answer to lee when he asked her if she heard caylee had an accident in the swimming pool?? SUPRISE SUPRISE!! and its on tape

I didn't watch the trial nor did I care to but it is really disturbing when I listen to all the good citizens saying things like she should watch her back or someone is going to kill her, all angry about someone they only know through the truthful and companionate media. So lets all go home and have a hate party, maybe burn some witches! If all the righteous people would spend that energy raising their own or minding their own laundry this really would be a better place (earth) to be. But I have faith, I know that will never happen. Don't worry people, don't want you to get board. There will always be another murder and trial , that you can count on. Pathetic !!!!!!!! Oh! By the way, I took a newspaper article about it to the grocery store and try to buy something with it but I couldn't purchase anything. Fancy that.

If you did not watch the case, than what do you think you know about it, and why are you here?if you think everyone should mind their own business. I would think that would go for you too.
04:27 PM on 07/14/2011
As I said in the first sentence of my remark,( I didn't watch the trial nor did I care) I have read remarks like "wrap her up in duct tape and throw her in the river" and many others remarks made by people others are calling The "Frankenstein Mob". My remarks were directed at them. Did you know her or her family? Do you have any personal involvement with anyone related to this case? And you are right! It does go for me too.

The jurors are sick to their stomachs.....not for the dumb verdict you gave which showed you didn't understand a circumstantial case nor were able to use common sense/not that you thought she had something to do with it but because of law, you couldn't find her guilty.....it is because you thought you were going to walk out and make some money off your stories and were shocked at to find out how "the people" thought about this case and you. And if I remember correctly, this Jennifer Ford got compensation for talking. She needs to forget about nursing school, as she will never understand nor learn "crtical thinking" that is a part of being a nurse.

With a little girl dead, a mom who didn't report her missing, evidence in the trunk of mom's car, what more evidence could a jury ask for? They had evidence. This jury knew that if they returned a not guilty verdict, it would make history. It would get attention and they would have their 15 minutes of fame. Now some have hired a publicist. I hope no tv station, no magazine, nobody will pay them for their opinion. I would like to see a law passed that no juror could make money from a verdict.

They had no motive, no DNA evidence that proved it was her mother that killed her, not a conclusive cause of death. It had nothing to do with making money. Name one juror from the past decade, that sat on a high profile case, that's living high on the hog.

There was no who, what or why in the Scott Peterson case. He is on death row. I guess there was just a jury in that case with a higer IQ, and a little more common sense.

The prosecution didn't only have to prove that there was a murder, they needed to prove who did it. They did not show where Casey was during that time or WHO SHE WAS WITH. There are many accidental ways the child could have died .There may have been some illegal activity going on, i.e. drugs etc. By the time those involved had sobered up enough to be lucid, they would have realized that it was obvious that the child had been dead for some time and then disposed of the body. Just as Casey had to know she would get caught for that check thing, but did it anyway. The prosecution spent days on chloroform, when the only reason for chloroform is to subdue a victim. Who would need chloroform to subdue a 2 year old. If she used it to put the baby to sleep while she partyed, that would not be first degree murder, but some other degree of murder or manslaughter. It could be that one of the people she was with caused the accidental death during a hard night partying. The duct tape was lying with the skull , not wrapped around it, so was probably not a factor in the death but used wrapping the remains. Lastly, I believe, was when the prosecutor was called out by Jose Baez for laughing during the defense closing. The jurors knew murder is never a laughing matter and did not find it amusing.

The Anthony home is the crime scene. Casey's cell phone proves she was in the area of the home during the murder. Would you or anyone you know sit in jail for 3 years if someone else murdered your baby? Wouldn't you talk real soon. i don't think Casey is capable of caring for anyone but herself that much. Actually I don't think Caseys think of anyone but herself period.
