Duchess Of Cambridge Adds New Name, Malene Birger, To The Designer Mix In Yellowknife, Northwest Territories (PHOTOS)

The Huffington Post     First Posted: 07/06/2011 12:56 am   Updated: 09/04/2011 5:12 am

The Duchess of Cambridge spent Tuesday in Yellowknife, the capital of the Northwest Territories, where she continued her Canadian tour with a new round of outfits.

For a meet-and-greet with residents and a visit to the Somba K'e Civic Plaza, the former-Kate Middleton introduced a new name to the mix -- Malene Birger. Birger's bio from Net-A-Porter.com:

Award-winning Danish designer Malene Birger, formerly of Day Birger et Mikkelsen, started her namesake line in 2003. Taking inspiration from the classic styles of the '50s and '60s, and demonstrating an inspired use of color, her beautiful silk dresses, sequined vests and draped white shirts are elegant, feminine and easy-to-wear.

Catherine picked Birger's "Bullet Dress," her LK Bennett Sledge2 pumps, a clutch and Kiki McDonough Citrine Drop earrings.

In the afternoon, the Duchess went casual to travel by seaplane to Blachford Lake, changing into an olive green button-down, navy J Brand “811” pants, leather belt and her Sebago Bela shoes.

She and Prince William also collected some local fashions during the festivities -- a pair of hockey jerseys, Harry Winston diamond cufflinks and a brooch in the shape of a polar bear and Canadian Rangers hoodies.

Check out photos of the royal couple on Tuesday. And for more, see Kate's Sarah Jessica Parker moment from Monday here.

She is going to become a huge asset to that family. Go Kate!

I am begging you to stop calling her the "former Kate Middleton." Is that her name? No. Do you say the "former Camilla Parker Bowles?" No again. We are all very much aware of both what her name used to be, and what it is now.

The jeans and button down shirt combo is not one of her better fashion choices.

I'm smiling. Prince William must be so proud of his wife. She's doing a great job and is so well received in Canada. Way to go Kate!

After first reviewing the latest political news and world events which can often leave me feeling a bit down, I finish my daily news intake with a few clicks on lighthearted stuff like entertainment and style. I was never much of a royal watcher until this young couple came on the scene and I have to admit, I really enjoy reading about them and more than that, I love watching them on video or seeing their photos. Why? Because they are happy and obviously enjoying life and each other. Happiness and joy is very rare thing to see in today's trauma/drama saturated media. William and Kate"s and happiness must have a magical contagiousness about it because after I've seen them grinning and exchanging flirting glances I feel happy too! Maybe if more people smiled and greeted one another warmly every day we wouldn't have to rely on this dashing royal couple to spread a little cheer around the globe.

I love them both. They are lovely and poised, but it must be just exhausting having to look and act so perfectly constantly.

That was one miserable looking bride - and when whe burst into tears, I wanted to say, run, Charlene, run. Run as far away as you can.

Many brides cry on their wedding day. She looked tense, nervous and anxious and who would not be at such a high profile wedding. Give things time and see if things unravel. Stop making all these horrible predictions. Sounds like every one is sitting on edge with joy waiting for marital problems.

Give it a rest.

The diamonds were mined from the area they were visiting.....the pieces themselves were probably made by H. Winston

Do you think H Winston created them for free?
The British Monachy all ready has one of the greatest collection of jewels in the world.
As long as H Winston is giving out jewelry, why not give some pieces (using local diamonds, of course) to the indigineous people who are having their lands damaged by mining interests instead of to some of the richest people in the world?
They at least these folks deserve it.

I have seen images of Yellowknife, NWT and that is a really cool, funky place and I do not blame them for wanting to visit that town and yet, who isn't sick and tired of hearing about the royal wedding and royal couple, that is so boring! I guess the people in the trailer parks have nothing better to do.

Ha.. a trailer park??? If I live in a trailer park, you must live under a rock.

Yes, let's shower them with more diamonds. It's not as if there isn't a king's ransom's worth of them locked in the Tower of London.

Somebody, feed this woman, quickly. She wants to have children? Well, I hope she isn't planning on breast feeding them.

You don't have to be plump or have a pair of big bazookas to breastfeed a child for goodness sake, mother nature manages to adapt for the individual. Kate has a beautiful and athletic physique, she certainly isn't anorexic. . Hmnn..so what's going on here, is there a bit of projecting on the food issues?

The king's ransom's worth of diamonds locked in the Tower of London you refer to belong to the state
