BP: Most Gulf Oil Spill Victims Should Not Get Any More Payouts

Bp Gulf Oil Spill Victims Payouts

KEVIN McGILL   07/ 8/11 03:40 PM ET   AP

NEW ORLEANS — BP is arguing that most victims of last year's Gulf oil spill should not get any more payouts for future losses because the hardest-hit areas are recovering and the economy is growing.

The British oil company argues its case in a 29-page document made public Friday and filed with the Gulf Coast Claims Facility. The $20 billion fund is responsible for paying for damages from the spill.

The company says the fund should end payments for future losses to everyone, except in limited cases for oyster harvesters.

The company had already argued that fund administrator Ken Feinberg's formula for determining final payments artificially inflates future expected losses.

What a great deal for BP! they are already backing out, but then it was the usual giveaway that Barck is so good at. He never issued a dime for emergency work that could have stopped some of the destrucrion but instead let BP (so unbiased) in complete charge. They poisoned thousands of birds and sea life with their chemicals while Obama went into his escapist mode and totally ignored all those pleas for help from the Gulf folks. UNFORGIVEABLE. We should have noticed his tactics at that point so what has changed? More giveaway deals?? .

They are also planning to run away with 3/4 of the $20 Billion escrow meant to help the victims who've lost their livelihoods and/ or health.

"Feinberg estimates that about $6 billion of the fund will be paid out in claims, including government claims and cleanup costs. He plans to return the remaining $14 billion to BP once all the settlements are paid out by August 2013." http://politics.foxnews.mobi/quickPage.html?page=23877&content=44917545&pageNum=-1

Report: Getting Off Oil - A 50-State Roadmap for Curbing Our Dependence on Petroleum.

America’s dependence on oil inflicts a heavy toll on our environment—harming our air, water and land. And with oil companies now having to go to greater lengths—and take greater risks—to satisfy the world’s demand for oil, the envi- ronmental impact of oil consumption will only increase in the years to come.

British Petroleum should have it's operational permits for drilling oil in the gulf revoked and all the American facilities seized until all claims have been satisfied. The CEO in charge at the time should have been criminally charged along with his upper staff safety engineers which were on the project.

Now push the knife in a little more and twist by raising the price of gas to $4 a gallon.

Yep. And, the American People don't need to approve any more drilling for BP in the United States. Go on now, giddy up on home now.

All those people have their livelihoods back? Coastline returned to it's pristine condition? Fish somehow now safe to eat without fear? Wildlife repopulated?

I doubt it, BP. Pay for the thoughtless damage you caused and the havoc you wreaked on the lives of so many people. Any politician that sides with you should be chased out of office by angry mobs.

Maybe Joe Barton will apologize to BP for all of the money they've paid out.

Oh, so they aren't liable for the damage they caused.

That would be the equivalent of someone who assaulted you getting acquitted because your wounds had healed before the trial began.

Goodness gracious! What a surprise! BP doesn't want to pay out any more compensation. Who could have seen that coming?
