In other news about prestigious things you can win just by tweeting sometimes, the University of Iowa Tippie MBA announced a $37,000 scholarship you can win by answering the question "What makes you an exceptional Tippie MBA candidate and full-time MBA hire? Creativity encouraged!" in a tweet.

Applicants are allowed to tweet and facebook in lieu of an essay.

"We want (applicants) to show us more about themselves," Jodi Schafer, the Tippie School of Management's director of recruiting and admissions told the Iowa Press-Citizen. "This would give us a lot more depth and show us more about a candidate than an essay would show."

Debatable we say. What do you think of this scholarship? Weigh in, in the comments section.

Slightly mis-leading headline as the competition is a bit more complicated than just one tweet but I've got to admire the University of Iowa for utilizing twitter - rarely used well by b-schools!

Employers look at FB and Twitter pages, why wouldn't academia?

I think it's a great way for the University to learn about applicants. Nearly all students are on facebook and many are also on Twitter. By sending a response using either one of these social media sites the University can learn much about the applicant by reading their previous updates and tweets.

This is the post intelligencia world, brave new world, where the participants all suffer from the disability of attention deficit disorder (which qualifies them for an MBA program. Thus, guaranteeing a new crop of morons to run american business into the ground and steer us on a brave new course in to the third world, ah yezzzz, I think I'll tweet them. I didn't even apply, who knows, maybe I can revisit my roots in Iowa on the Lamb. How kool is that!

Oh, yes. Twitter and Facebook are known for their depth, so much more than the essay. Right.

Different forms and mediums are a good thing. A haiku isn't a bad thing just because it's shorter than a sonnet.

Yes, but in Japanese...

Each symbol can have
different meanings, making
them very complex.

...English cannot do haiku justice.

If I win, can I use the money to pay off my existing student loan debt instead?

Are you allowed to say 'Tippie' in mixed company?
Can you text your Tippie to someone else on campus?

Tippie?! Didn't even kiss her.

Simple. Effective. Devastating.
