Jill Greenberg's 'Glass Ceiling' In New York (PHOTOS)

Jill Greenberg's new show "Glass Ceiling" at Clamp Art NYC is her fifth at the gallery and represents a continuation of her interests in portraiture, feminist art, and pushing the boundaries of digital technology.

"Glass Ceiling" includes images of female synchronized swimmers and athletes underwater wearing colorful bathing suits and high heels,with the athletes' heads cut off by the surface tension. This is both absurd and yet suggestive of the control that is exerted over femininity in modern culture. This idea of control is further explored in Greenberg's new series of horse photography, as the bridle and bit serve to control horses movements, and are every bit as restrictive as the heels that prevent women from being able to move quickly.

In the fall of 2012, a book of Greenberg's images of horses, bits and bridals will be published by Rizzoli, Greenberg's third book after the NY Times best-seller "Monkey Portraits" and the critically acclaimed "Bear Portraits."

Greenberg is one of the earliest adopters of Photoshop, and has continued to embrace and master cutting edge technology in all of her work. As a commercial photographer, Greenberg has worked for Disney, Fox, Coca Cola, Warner Brothers and her photos have been on the cover of Time, Newsweek, and Entertainment Weekly. As an artist, Greenberg has had solo shows at galleries in NY, LA, Amsterdam, Paris and Melbourne, is collected at The Kemper Museum in Kansas City and in many other prestigious collections, and has upcoming solo shows in Toronto and Atlanta in 2011. Greenberg graduated from Rhode Island School of Design with honors.
