Providence Hogan, accused of embezzling $82,000 from her child's Cobble Hill school PTA, has agreed to repay the amount, plus interest, to avoid jail time.

New York Daily News reports that Hogan was "desperate" when she siphoned funds from P.S. 29's PTA account to pay for fertility treatments and rent for her day spa business, Providence Day Spa. The pilfering reportedly lasted several years.

Prosecutors told The New York Times in March that Hogan took the money to "keep her family living in the lifestyle they were accustomed to," noting that she faked documents to keep the thefts hidden.

Hogan's lawyer Steven Flamhaft told the Daily News that the stealing was uncharacteristic, and that Hogan was having "psychological and emotional problems," citing several miscarriages and her husband's job loss.

Hogan's daughter attends P.S. 29, and the school's parents reportedly just want Hogan to return what she took. P.S. 29 recently experienced a fire on its playground, racking up tens of thousands of dollars in repair fees.

In an unrelated case last week, three former PTA mothers in Los Angeles used their connection with their children's school PTA to recruit investors in a $14 million Ponzi scheme.

Most people who are unable to conceive but are desperate for children adopt -- there are a lot of children out there who need a family and there can be no greater love.

This mommy isn't teaching her children good rules to live by. Perhaps a long stint in prison will do the trick.

if she stole this much money, what makes them think she will be able to pay it back. she was obviously broke! Any amount over a couple hundred dollars is alot. i can't believe no one noticed this money was missing.

She took the money over several years...then her lawyer has the nerve to say this was not charactaristic of her? If it happened over several years it most certainly was.
