Tom Ford's much-talked-about fall 2011 campaign has dropped. Dubbed "Night Temptress," the Mert & Marcus-lensed ads feature Victoria's Secret model Candice Swanepoel rocking bleached eyebrows and the designer's dramatic creations.

I'm old enough to remember when models were drop dead gorgeous and they never looked like freaks. They were of age as well and not little girls playing dress up.

Anyone that lived through the so called fashion of the late 60's and 70's know just how butt ugly clothes were then. The clothes in these pictures are not awful...but the way the model is made up and poses just over shadows the clothes.

To me it looks like old Laura Biagotti (sunglass) ads mixed with Guy Bourdin (photographer.)

Hats off to Mert & Marcus, because the reference material shows, but the photos have a different energy; more modern, the subject is more self-possessed and "in command" of her world. Well done!

I love it!

In the first photo especially, she vaguely resembles Tom Ford. I thought: ooh, Robert Palmer's "Addicted to Love" models cloned with Tom = this model, this picture. Très cool. And as for the rest, they really do bring back the Helmut Newton vibe. The purple one with the bodice is so awesome. Wow!
