Food Chains: Tomatoes, Black Pepper And Coffee Through The Years

Lapham's Quarterly's food issue is a rich read--articles range from kitchen appliances from the past to dog eating. Everything is worth a read but we are particular entranced with the graphic below.

We learned facts such as:
  • Tomatoes have gone from being considered poisonous to ketchup becoming the United States' national condiment.
  • In Rome during the first century, gold was traded in India for black pepper.
  • Brazil produces the most coffee in the world but Finland consumes the most per capita.
