Google Offers Launches in New York and San Francisco

Google's Groupon-Challenger Expands To More Cities

After conducting initial market tests in Portland, Oregon, Google has launched its daily deals product, called Google Offers, in New York City and San Francisco.

What kind of deals are available? In New York, for example, Google Offers customers on Tuesday can purchase vouchers for businesses located in Downtown, Midtown and Uptown Manhattan. East Village locals might enjoy the "$5 for $10 worth of authentic Belgian fries and flavorful toppings at Pommes Frites". Other offers include "$10 for one dozen" cupcakes at Tonnie's Minis, and "$5 for $10 of decadent deserts, cocktails, and more" at AYZA Wine & Chocolate Bar.

According to its website, Google Offers will soon also be launching in Austin, Denver, Washington D.C., Boston and Seattle.

Google Offers has been called a "precursor" to full-fledged mobile payments. The service will eventually integrate with Google Wallet, which is expected to launch this summer and will allow users to store "credit cards, offers, loyalty cards and gift cards, but without the bulk," according to Google.
