"Hitch" Is A Recipe For Hitchcock Suspense Success (VIDEO)

WATCH: "Hitch" Is A Recipe For Hitchcock Suspense Success

Alfred Hitchcock films had a very defined formula. A little voyeurism, a fragile -- preferably blonde -- heroine, a MacGuffin or two, and a lot of suspense. The fact that these plots and themes reads like an ingredient list wasn't lost on Pascal Monaco, Felix Meyer, and Torsten Strer, students at Germany's Hannover University of Applied Sciences and Arts.

For their graduate project, the team cooked up "Hitch," an animated short that toys with the idea of mixing and matching the iconic Hitchcockian styles and motifs as if from a cookbook, to create the perfect mystery. And like a Hitchcock film, while the visuals are idyllic, bordering on saccharine, the music, teamed up with a nearly dead-on voiceover, adds a macabre feel to the video.

Whether or not Hitchcock knowingly perfected the format in culinary style to elude to a more fantastical feel is debatable. But, food for thought, the video's last hurrah to viewers is the epic Hitchcock quote, "Cinema is not a slice of life, but a piece of cake."
