Fox News' Eric Bolling: 'I Don't Remember' Any Terrorist Attacks On America During President Bush's Term (VIDEO)

First Posted: 07/14/11 10:03 AM ET Updated: 09/13/11 06:12 AM ET

Fox News host Eric Bolling pulled a Rudy Giuliani on Wednesday, asserting that there were no terrorist attacks on "American soil" during President Bush's term in office.

Giuliani famously made a similar assertion in early 2010, saying, "we had no domestic attacks under Bush." Of course, the 9/11 attacks happened under Bush.

Bolling's misstatement came during a discussion on the network's Glenn Beck replacement show, "The Five." He and a panel--which included former Bush spokeswoman Dana Perino--were arguing about whether Bush had been guilty of "fear-mongering" during his tenure. Panelist Bob Beckel said that the former president had used fear-mongering around the non-existent weapons of mass destruction in Iraq. As he attempted to continue his point, Bolling cut him off and started to move on to the next segment.

"America was certainly safe between 2000 and 2008," he said. "I don't remember any attacks on American soil during that period of time." Nobody on the panel challenged this comment.

WATCH:

Bolling recently got into hot water for comments he made about President Obama which some viewed as racist.

Republicans have gotten so used to pretending that all bad things (or situations perceived as bad) happened to this country AFTER Pres. Obama took office in January 2009.

In other words, terrorist attacks, stock-market losses, job losses, massive foreclosures, the largest downfall in the housing market, the largest loss of personal wealth among the lower 98%, etc. happened under Pres.  Read More...

perhaps it's the japanese' fault, a fishy situation, or rather waterlogged, or soggy like his memory. when they are not impaling themselves in nuclear distress they make damned fine automobiles. or perhaps we could blame the french with their loose morality and freedom fries, ah the calories and cholesterol, and we americans are so abstemious. you could call us, careful. or maybe we could blame the british, blame it on their lip, no they fight along side us in the trouble regions. so lets blame the italians they are so greasy, slick and slippery...

Blackouts like this are manageable. You only need to lay off the whiskey, crack, and hookers.

Mr. Bolling just drew a blank on a big fact.

Sadly, there is no white-wash thick enough to cover that blank spot. However, the desire to reconstruct that past with empty spaces, rather than learn the lessons memory offers, is universal. It is also, generally, cowardly, but, in this case, I'd blame stupidity. 9/11 is simply too big a fact to forget.

However, Haley Barber remembered fondly his youth in Mississippi, under the the "White Citizens Councils." His father and grandfather probably didn't remember a single lynching. Memory is malleable, this forgetting is why bad public policies continue to be possible.

The worst terrorist attack in the US happened under Bush. I am not blaming Bush but despise political parties using incidents to pro and con a certain party. What I also despise is how the GOP thinks Bush should get a pass for 3K Americans dying on 9/11 and count anything AFTER that as proof of how he "defended" us lol.

I think what he was saying was that during the time we were at war with Iraq there were no terror attacks, meaning that Bush protected us by his decision to engage in this specific war. Regardless, it's all spin. Bush good Obama bad, blah, blah, blah. FOX news is going to be flushed down the toilet with Murdoch.

It's the Fox revision of history. Repeat it over and over. America was safe during Bush. There were no attacks during Bush's presidency. No terrorists under Bush. America was safe. Keep repeating until the mantra replaces the truth in your mind.

The most obvious analysis of the facts is that the terrorists are terrified of a Democratic president actually out to capture or kill them, but they have no fear whatsoever of a bunch of corporatist plutocrats whom they know will only exploit the attack to their own political ends and who will never dream of coming after them. That's what the facts suggest.

The basis of his international power was blackmail and extortion. He deserves the worst. We deserve our governments back from his manipulations.

Of course nobody at Fox remembers a single domestic terrorist attack during the Bush Administration. To be reminded otherwise doesn't fit their belief that we are always safer when there is a Republican in the White House. Therefore the 9/11 attacks are excluded from such discussions or, if pressed, the blame is placed on Bill Clinton even though the weight of evidence shows that Bush et al. were repeatedly warned before the 9/11 attacks but chose to ignore it (they were more interested in starting a new war with Iraq even back then and dealing was bin Laden was an unnecessary diversion of their attention).
