Cast, Fans Bid Final Farewell to Harry Potter Series (VIDEO)

Harry Potter Series Farewell

First Posted: 07/15/11 09:37 AM ET Updated: 09/14/11 06:12 AM ET

With the last Harry Potter film hitting theaters at the stroke of midnight last night, fans worldwide have been lining up to bid a final farewell to their beloved literary characters. For ten years, loyal readers have watched their favorite series unfold onto the silver screen and with the end finally here fans are sounding off on what the series meant to them. One fan waiting at the London premiere to get a glimpse of the cast as they walked the red carpet said, “I feel like my childhood is over.” Another was quoted as saying, “This has been my life since elementary school. J.K. Rowling has given me so much magic and I thank her for everything.” Star of the series Emma Watson replied by saying, “It’s given people consistency and an amazing escape. That’s what films are for.”

Some fans, however, believe that the film adaptations have not done justice to Rowling’s words. Samantha Friedman, a Staff Reporter of "The Leaky Cauldron," was quoted as saying, “The films. of course, have disappointed a lot of us fans because we are so into the books.” Nevertheless, millions of fans around the world will grieve the end of this epic series.

But fans won’t be the only ones mourning. The Harry Potter films have made their producer, Warner Brothers Studios, billions of dollars over the last decade. Georg Szalai, business editor and Hollywood reporter, stated that, “The Harry Potter franchise is the biggest movie franchise that Hollywood has ever seen. The movies so far have made about 6.4 billion dollars on a global basis...and with the final movie coming out, we could get close to about 7.5 billion.”

Check out this video, “The End of the Road For Harry”, to see more on the biggest movie of the summer.

I know I am in a very small group of movie goers, but after fifteen minutes of the first Harry Potter movie I left the theatre. I have seen snippets, (as if anyone could avoid them) but I bid a grateful farewell to the cast and crew of the Potter exploits. Someday, maybe I will understand the rabid fans of this mediocre script, but until then, let us put the brooms in the closet. Farewell.

The next project should be the best of the outtakes and bloopers DVD, all profits to go to charities.

It wouldn't cost much to produce and it would go like hotcakes.

And I've always wondered if anyone started singing "Danny Boy" during the filming of the second movie. ("The pipes, the pipes are calling.")

If only this were true.

But there's still the DVD ad campaign.

Then the complete DVD box set.

Then the network premiere.

then the DIRECTORS CUT DVD.

The crap cycle never slows down.

Seems that this has been an awfully long goodbye.

Like 'Will and Grace' long. Like 'The Judds' long.

Wait...maybe Harry Potter can go to the new Oprah network like The Judds did?

As always there are those hateful remarks - not sure why it is enjoyable to crash on other people enjoyment, why those that hate the series, the movies and the books, and all the actors and writers can just move on to their favorite article and let the fans who really do like this enjoy a special event in the series.

Debate if you will the merrits of any show - but the hate ? get over it, don't read about and don't watch the films .....

For the fans and followers of the series it's a great movie and an excellant ending to a very exciting part of their lives - and all the snotty remarks won't change that.

Meh, the nightmare may seem to be over, but these awful films and books will be around forever. Their mediocrity cannot be undone.

I can't get over the hateful, stupid comments people are making here. The movie is really, really good - there's a reason this series is the most successful ever.

Agree - I was excellant, and a great ending to the series.

Perhaps some of the commentors really don't comprehend there actually is a story here, with meaning and values .......... that are beyond their limited thinking capabilities. Sad for them.

Thank God. Move on and write something else. Harry is like 50 now right? Just ain't a cute kid's movie anymore.
11:16 AM on 07/15/2011
It was never a cute kid's movie. Don't like it? Don't watch it.

It wasn't even a good kid's movie.
Harry Potter was never a good protagonist. He's more like a young George W. Bush - everything is just handed to him and stuff happens around him he doesn't understand.
12:02 PM on 07/15/2011
you seriously think Harry Potter is not a juvenile kid's series? Read A Song of Ice and Fire, then read Harry Potter. Tell me which one is for kids. One features beheading, inccest, murder and rape and the other one features...what I don't even know...magic trains and magic jelly beans?

There's millions of people worldwide who will disagree with you, I being one of them.

I'm curious as to what is on your literary reading list?

Yes and doing Equus means he will never be completely typecast and boxed in by the Harry Potter role. Clever boy.
