San Francisco Burger Battle: Food Bloggers Pick Top Five Patties (PHOTOS)

There are few things more personal (or controversial) than the subject of the best burger in the city. We asked these five fabulous food bloggers to take it to the grill and weigh in on the heated debate.

4505 Meats

Jesse Friedman, Beer and Nosh: The best burger in SF is hands down the 4505 Meats burger by Ryan Farr. He uses custom ground aged beef, cooked perfectly, bastes the bun in butter, and in the summer, finishes it with a slice of heirloom tomato. It's small, so it's a perfect indulgence. It's simplicity at it's best, and I'm hungry just writing this.

Hey supposed SF burger connoisseurs, try venturing beyond the Ferry Building and SOMA. This article seems like something thrown together by "bloggers" who don't actually live in the city.

If Momo's is on the list you KNOW it's a farce.... why not just go ahead and include McDonald's or the TGI Friday's.

Or was the purpose to give free publicity to burger joints withing walking distance of the Ferry Building and ATT Park where all the tourists flock on game day?

The burger at 2223 Market gets my vote. But that's near the "gay" neighborhood and not in tourist land, so no "bloggers" must eat there.

It's Mo's, not MoMo's. Mo's is in North Beach and is nowhere near the ballpark.

Sorry. I stand by what I said. I love a burger at Gott's, whether it's up in St. Helena, Napa or in the Ferry Buildling. And for your information, I've lived in San Francisco proper for 13 years, eight of which in my current apartment, a block away from Dolores Park and four blocks away from the "gay" neighborhood (where I lived for three years prior to moving to my current apt). I've eaten the burger at 2223 Market, Super Burger, Burgermeister, Harvey's, Sliders, Lime, Orphan Andy's, Sparky's, Blue, Chow, Eureka Lounge and remember eating burgers at Bagdad Cafe, Hot 'n' Hunky and Hot 'n' Chunky when they were around.

And I still prefer the burger at Gott's.

Pearl's Deluxe Burgers? Simple Joint, but one of the most memorable burgers I've had... As an afficionado, I'm surprised there isn't a mention in the comments either.

You guys didn't even mention the best blog in San Francisco and California for dealing with cheeseburgers, The Hamblogger (www.thehamblogger.com). It's a blog about hamburgers written and photographed by professional news photographers who, as they explain in their introduction, spend a lot of time on assignment thinking about food. While the writers are currently on hiatus due to workload, they will be returning soon...and not only can you find out where to get a great burger in SF, but they'll also tell you where you can find one in Ulan Bator, Mongolia.

I agree with the love for Mo's, but I'm going to have to check out Nopa now after seeing that picture.

Best thing about Nopa is the bar. It's outstanding.
