Tom Watson Hole In One: 61-Year-Old Golfer Makes Ace At British Open 2011 (VIDEO)

Tom Watson showed that he can still produce some magical moments at age 61.

In the second round of the Open Championship, the veteran golfer took his 4-iron at the par-3 sixth hole, struck the ball with a beautiful swing and watched it take one bounce before falling into the cup for a hole in one. Watson lifted his arms in celebration and let out a smile as the crowd cheered on.

"Wish I could have seen it go in," the five-time British Open champ joked as he went to grab his ball.

The incredible shot came just one day after Dustin Johnson aced the par-3 16th hole at Royal St. George's in the first round.

Wow!! Since he was my father's favorite golfer, I grew up watching him. I have always found him to be kind and humble. Very exciting.

I had an eagle on an uphill, 385-yd par 4 once. That was kinda' like getting an ace. I pop-flied my shot off the tee, (damn thing went higher then it did horizontally,) and had about 200 yards remaining to the green.

I hit a smooth 3 wood that never got the ball much more than 5 feet off the ground, straight at the pin. I lost sight of the ball as it crested a rise directly in front of the green, but could "feel" its roll toward the cup.

A second later, the group in front of us started cheering, and I could hear one of them yelling "it's in the hole - it's in the hole" in a terrible Carl Spackler imitation. I quit golfing that season because of back troubles, so it was a nice way to go out.

Sweet! I've never holed anything longer than a chip, but I hit more than 300 yards on a drive one day. Orange ball, all by myself. I just blasted that thing, losing sight of it. I walked and walked, and there it was, 75 yards away from the green...my orange ball.

Not as cool as your deuce, but memorable.

F/F! Tom Watson is one of my all time personal favorites. He's a great man, a fantastic golfer, a real sportsman and, as you said, a TRUE gentleman.

I am also the very proud owner of a set Tom Watson irons. Love them. Now...if I could just figure out how to get my short game looking like his...

One of the few times that I have seen a headline that makes one LESS likely to click on the story. That some unknown aging pro hits a hole in one is barely worth mentioning. Tom Watson doing it is real news.
