Casey Anthony Released From Jail After Nearly Three Years (VIDEO)

First Posted: 07/17/11 01:10 AM ET Updated: 09/15/11 06:12 AM ET

Casey Marie Anthony walked out of the Orange County Jail in Florida a free woman early Sunday morning. Anthony's release occurred exactly three years from the day that she made her first court appearance on multiple charges related to the disappearance of her 2-year-old daughter, Caylee.

Anthony, dressed in a bright pink polo shirt and jeans, walked out of the jail booking center with her attorney, Jose Baez, at about 12:10 a.m. When she walked out, Anthony mouthed "thank you" to one of the heavily armed guards that escorted her and her attorney to a dark SUV.

An armed contingent of law enforcement officers held back a large crowd that had gathered to watch Anthony's release. Some demonstrators waved placards while others shouted "Killer!" and "We hate you Casey!"

News helicopters briefly followed the SUV and several decoy vehicles as they left the courthouse but they quickly slipped from public view.

According to jail officials, Anthony had $537.68 on her when she was released.

"This release had an unusual amount of security so, therefore, in that sense, it would not be a normal release," Orange County Corrections Department spokesman Allen Moore said. "We have made every effort to not provide any special treatment for her. She's been treated like every other inmate."

Kelly Hall, an Orlando resident who has followed the case since Caylee was reported missing, was at the courthouse for Anthony's release.

"I was hoping to get some closure but after seeing her walk out I found myself more angry," Hall told The Huffington Post. "She had a smug look on her face and it was disgusting. This case has been emotionally damaging and I think it will take a long time for myself and everyone else who has followed it to heal."

There is speculation the SUV that carried Anthony and Baez headed for a local airport, but their destination is not yet known.

Twelve days ago, a jury of seven women and five men -- after hearing 33 days of testimony, 400 pieces of evidence and more than 90 witnesses -- found Anthony not guilty of killing her daughter.

The case against Anthony was mostly circumstantial, but as it unfolded, she was portrayed in the trial as a promiscuous, self-centered woman who became a cold-blooded killer. The motive, prosecutors alleged, was to allow her to live a carefree life without her daughter.

The state's theory was that a desperate Anthony used chloroform to subdue her daughter and then suffocated her with duct tape. Anthony then fabricated fantastic lies to cover up her deeds, the prosecutors said.

According to Baez, Casey Anthony and her father, George Anthony, were at home on June 16, 2008, when they noticed Caylee was missing. They began a frantic search, looking under beds and in the garage. Then George Anthony took the search outside to the above-ground pool, where they found a lifeless Caylee floating in the water, Baez said.

Caylee's remains were found in a wooded area near the Anthony family home in December 2008. The discovery was made roughly five months after she was reported missing.

After one day of deliberations, the jury sided with the defense and found Anthony guilty of four lesser counts of lying to police officers about the disappearance of her child -- lies which had launched one of the largest searches ever for a missing child.

The verdict ignited a cauldron of emotion in the courtroom and around the world. Angry protesters flocked to the courthouse steps, and dozens of death threats were made against Anthony and members of her family.

On July 7, Chief Judge Belvin Perry sentenced Anthony to four years for the misdemeanor counts, but he shortened her term because she had already served more than 1,000 days since being charged with first-degree murder.

Anthony, 25, faced a possible death sentence if she had been convicted of first-degree murder. Her acquittal has ensured that she can never again be tried for her daughter's murder because of the double jeopardy clause in the U.S. Constitution. Prosecutors are also prohibited from appealing her acquittal.

Two civil suits have been filed against Anthony. One was filed by a woman named Zenaida Fernandez-Gonzalez, who claims Anthony damaged her reputation when, in July 2008, she told police a woman with her name had kidnapped her daughter. The kidnapping was later proven to be a total fabrication, and Gonzalez is now seeking $15,000 in damages.

Texas EquuSearch, the missing person search and recovery group that searched for Caylee, is also seeking more than $100,000 in a lawsuit to recoup funds it spent on the search efforts.

Anthony still owes investigative and court costs and possibly fees for her murder defense.

According to her attorneys, Anthony is destitute. However, any debt she acquires as a result of her cases will likely be recouped by the money she can earn now that she has been acquitted. It's no secret that Anthony stands to make a fortune from film and book rights, and the deals are already coming in. Last week, an independent TV production company offered her $1 million for an interview.

Will Anthony attempt to cash in on her acquittal? No one knows yet. It also remains unclear where she will stay. Her parents, George and Cindy Anthony, have declined multiple requests for comment, but a source close to the family has told The Huffington Post they have made arrangements for her to stay with an aunt in Texas.

The death of Caylee is a mystery and likely will remain so for eternity. Her mother, however, has freedom.

I will put this as nice as I can. All you people need to get off Casey Anthony's case and focus on the real problems in this world right now. Social Security, Jobs, Housing, Thiefs abusing welfare and Social Security and other programs. If all of you would use your energy on these problems and not on a case or life that can be changed. We al might be able to accomplish a better world for all of us. The past cant be changed we caan only move forward. Think about this and make a change.

A majority do focus their energies on those issues, Montego Bay. They do so by electing (and holding to task) government officials whose purpose is to address these concerns (among others).

Think about this the next time elections come around and you're called to perform your civic duty.

There was only ONE parent at the scene...CASEY !!!! AND, I use the word 'parent' loosley...she doesn't deserve to be called 'mother' either ! Caylee DIDN'T DROWN...her grandparents or even her 'soul-less mother' would've called 911. DUH...If she accidentally drowned...you don't need DUCT TAPE covering a childs nose and mouth...attached to the back of her skull.....OMG....WHY did 12 jurors NOT SEE THIS ?? This wasn't an ACCIDENT...it was pre-meditated. Casey made chloroform to subdue Caylee so she could be FREE to party...which is what she did for 31 DAYS...got the "Beautiful Life" tattoo. The jurors are MORONS....there was NO JUSTICE done here...shame on all of them !! As for Jose Beaz..Guess he won't be selling Bikinis anymore...unless he gives his business to Casey. She can use all the Bikinis for her next wet T-Shirt Contest...UNREAL ! This guy was rarely welcomed into a court room before...now he's a memer of the "Dream Team". He KNOWS Casey is GUILTY of MURDERING Caylee--despicable excuse for a human being !!! Only God can have mercy on Casey's soul now....I personally don't think she has one !! One can only hope she runs into a freight train or ends up being O.J.'s cell mate....that's what she deserves...NOT FREEDOM !! R.I.P. Caylee...you're in the arms of the angels now !!!

I know she was acquitted. But she is not innocent in this. She did somethbing or knows something. How can one not believe this when you look at her actions. The most obvious is how she kept putting her mother off in those 31 days. Cindy was demanding to see Caylee. Casey kept stalling and comingup with excuses. On numerous occasions she made up excuses for why she couldn't pick up Caylee "at the nanny's hoouse" and bring her to Cindy. This went on for almost a month. Almost a month of Casey stalling with excuses.... "it's too late inthe evening to bother Zenaida", "Zenaida took her on a short road trip", "Can you give me one more day and I promise you". HOW THE HECK COULD ANYONE NOT SEE THAT SHE KNEW CAYLEE WAS NOT WITH US ANY LONGER ??
To all of you who keep saying she is not guilty and reprimanding others to get over it........I say, okay, she was acquitted, but let me ask you a question and I want you to answer it honestly.....ask yourself what YOU would have voted for if you were on the jury? And be honest with yourself.

there is NO doubt that Casey did this ! No innocent mother would EVER not report her daughter missing in THIRTY-ONE DAYS...OMG ! There was only ONE parent at the scene...CASEY. Casey is free because the prosecution is inept liars.
09:07 PM on 07/19/2011
The bible says we are not to judge and we are to forgive. So Be It.
remember they all agreed that the only thing she was guilty of was of lying.
I have been praying for her salvation as well as for her family. NOW this is for all the Christians
still condemning her, I say, "first cast the beam out of thine own eye, and then shalt thou see clearly Judge Luke 6:42
07:58 PM on 07/22/2011
The Bible teaches us we are to forgive our brother seventy times seven in a day. Amen. . . However: it also says "vengence are mine sayeth the Lord" God knows all truth in this situation and He will recompence. IN HIS TIMING. Likewise: we reap what we sow "sinner or saint" and as for condemning . . She has already condemned herself thru her own unprecedented actions. . . no one told her to do the things she did. I must say . . it is horrifically ironic she did not report her own missing child??? I know in my heart " I WOULD" PRAISE GOD. Secondly . . IF she was already "with Jesus" WHY on earth would you use duct tape? Seriously. . .When any one of us go against the word of God and they are caught . . that is a righteous judgement. We are still held accountable for the wrong we have done. BUT . . It is God who decides how, when or what that recompensement will be. All I am saying is : I trust in my Lord and Savior completely,I know He knows the truth and I believe with all my heart . . it's in His Holy Hands and He will take care of it. We are to love and pray for one another . . I agree. Amen. But that doesn't mean a terrible crime hasn't been committed. As only God, Casey and Calley know the REAL TRUTH.

She can sleep at night because she is not guilty of killing her child.

You also said: All i can say is she has to answer to our God.. and i pray he has no mercy for her, just like she had no mercy killing her little girl.

Sorry to say your wish for God not to have mercy on Casey is not the God that I read about:"For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their iniquities will I remember no more." or "Be ye therefore merciful, as your Father also is merciful."

It continues to amaze me how we as humans wish for Casey to have a horrible life and hope that she suffers until the day she dies, without realizing that we too, at any time can change places with her. Maybe not with the same charges as Ms. Anthony, but with people we care about imposing a judgment of guilty upon us that we've been cleared of.

In other words, How would we feel reading the comments back to ourselves if in a similar situation?
02:41 PM on 07/20/2011
Wow...you're kidding...right ? You must be one of the jurors on this trial...they took more time ordring lunch...than DELIBERATING all the EVIDENCE...INEXCUSABLE !! After MANY LIES...Casey comes up with the DROWNING LIE....do you think an INNOCENT mother would wait 31 DAYS to report he child missing...NO WAY ! AND...if she did drown...WHY was there DUCT TAPE around her mouth & nose....it was WRAPPED AROUND her skull 3 TIMES...DUH !!! God's the only one that will have mercy on Casey's soul....I personally don't think she has one. She's a SOCIOPATH...narcissistic personality...these people HAVE NO CONSCIENCE !! They're like MOST serial killers...cunning...expert LIARS. Do some RESEARCH on these type of KILLERS ! The jurors didn't do their job...they were in more of a hurry to get home for the July 4th Holiday than DELIBERATING & reviewing all the EVIDENCE...disgusting MISCARRIAGE of JUSTICE....SHAME ON THEM ALL !

Casey Anthony will never have a normal life-regardless of the jury's decision. At the moment, she is the most infamous woman in America and easily recognizable. I don't believe she can ever go back to her party-girl days. She's lost her family and her friends, and who supports her, but her attorneys? I wonder if she ever thinks of beautiful little Caylee. I hope Caylee's grandparent's at least are around to visit her grave and remember that sweet child. I'm sure Casey is long gone from Florida-the speculation is rampant that she's anywhere from Texas, to Ohio, to California. Unfortunately for her, someone is going to recognize her sooner or later, and then what? Her life will probably always be a living hell.

Protected? Both Ramirez (now on death row) and Manson (sentenced to death, then commuted to life, has been in prison over 40 years, denied parole 11 times) were convicted. The only similarity these cases have with Casey Anthony are murder and media attention.
05:55 PM on 07/19/2011
Casey Anthony went through the process of justice just like any other defendant would, she spent her time in jail and I beleive had a fair trial. The case is over the media should give it a rest they are going to harbor on this thing even when she's been free for four days now they have to realize and every one doese that Casey Anthony is still a human being. She had her day in court and went through the entire process.I tink these hypocrits that want to hurt her for some thin she was found innocent for should all just get lives.Just let her get her self together and pick up where she left off in life it can't be easy for Casey Anthony and my heart goese out to her.
03:15 PM on 07/19/2011
I personally feel she killed her daughter cause her daughter was putting a kink in
her "social/drug" world.

It's a good thing we can't convict people on personal feelings anymore. Ever hear of the Salem witch trials?
11:48 AM on 07/20/2011
Yes, and the Salem witch trials weren't based on personal "feelings" at all. They were based a belief system that had prevailed for hundreds of years, fueled by mass hysteria.
