Rick Perry 2012? Texas Governor 'Comfortable' With Idea Of Presidential Run

Rick Perry

07/17/11 11:34 AM ET   AP

DES MOINES, Iowa -- Texas Gov. Rick Perry says he'll likely decide in two or three weeks whether he'll run for president.

The conservative Republican has long been scornful of Washington, and he says even now he doesn't wake up wanting to be president. But Perry says he also knows his wife, Anita, and others want him to run and he's getting used to the idea.

Perry told the Des Moines Register that he's "getting more and more comfortable every day that this is what I've been called to do. This is what America needs."

Perry is the longest-serving governor in Texas history. An evangelical Christian, he has a strong following among the social conservatives who often dominate Republican politics.

His aides began making inquiries last month about Iowa's leadoff presidential nominating caucuses.

All you clowns making fun of Perry because he has asked for guidance from God should be ashamed, i thought you libs believed people should be able to do anything they want,so why put him down for his beliefs, after all Obama is a closet Muslim and you dont see people putting him down for it.

Shakespeare said this about Rick Perry: "Thou art a base, proud, shallow, beggarly, three-suited, hundred-pound, filthy worsted-stocking knave; a lily-liver'd, action-taking, whoreson, glass-gazing, superserviceable, finical rogue; one-trunk-inheriting slave; one that wouldst be a bawd in way"

Just what American leadership needs........ another idiot from the village called Texas.

I live in Texas and I agree with you completely.

Perry will be able to sell off the entire USA to Foreign Investors like he's already done to parts of Texas.
01:36 PM on 07/18/2011
Indeed. He doesn't want Fed funds, but he's happy to sell our Toll roads (that took quite a few houses & family farms via Eminent Domain) to Spain.
Slick Rick.

I'm comfortable also with Perry running. It's if he wins where I would feel very uncomfortable.

I am so glad that "God" has PLENTY of time to "Call" on people like Rick Perry, Michelle Bachman, and Rick "Google My Last Name" Santorum, to run for office.
Yes, "God" whose major accomplishments have been creating the universe and everything in it, apparently has plenty of time to talk to these "Gifted" people and tell them to run for the presidency of the United States.

I find it funny though, that this very same god permits famine, disease, droughts, hurricanes, tornados, wildfires, flooding, wars, rape, murder and other such horrendous things all across the globe. Sounds like god might have "His" prorates a bit skewed.

Even from the back row I can see the lying, hypocritical, "Look at me I have private conversations with the creator of the universe" bull from these folks. They are scam artists who invoke the name of "god" for their own gain.

Oh and you forgot that God told George Bush to run for President.

Read this blog with Neil Aquino's (Texas Liberal blog) reaction of Governor Perry's book "Fed Up: Our Fight to Save America from Washington".

This piece does not speak to the content of the book. Worthless liberal propaganda.
Perry is not trying to act as a prophet, he's simply giving his point of view. And, from where he sits, he has a real good understanding of our country's problems.
President Perry sounds real good to me CAROL.
Neil's review is spot waaaay off. Naturally, it's the liberal point of view.

Really? A good understanding? Is that why he suggested secession from the country?? What a wonderful quote to hit him with time and time again. You do realize that there is a LOT of buyers remorse here in Texas. When Formula racing can be supported by the state but education spending has to be cut, there is a lot wrong with the state's management.

Run Perry run, it will be fun to watch, I will certainly change parties to vote in the primary for Perry, cause this is a head to head that I want to see.

It seems that Perry likens being governor to the ministry, as in G-d gave him the calling to enter the public arena. Jeez, doesn't G-d have enough on her plate? And could she make up her mind? Who does she want to be a candidate? It can't be all of them. Yo, G-d, is it Perry, Bachmann, Palin, Gingrich, none of the above? Give us a sign.
