Casey Anthony Free But Prisoner Of Public Death Threats

Casey Anthony

First Posted: 07/18/11 10:13 AM ET Updated: 09/17/11 06:12 AM ET

Wearing blue jeans and a bright pink top, Casey Anthony left prison in the early hours of Sunday morning as over 300 hundred people jeered and shouted at the free woman. But now that young Anthony has been tried and acquitted of murdering her two-year-old daughter, Caylee, that doesn’t mean she'll be safe, warns HLN’s Jane Velez-Mitchell.

“She should definitely be worried about her safety,” Velez-Mitchell tells me. “Her parents have gotten numerous death threats and she is considered perhaps the most despised woman in America.”

Since the not guilty first-degree murder verdict was announced, many have been so outraged that Velez-Mitchell, who has been covering the case for over three years with her HLN collegue, Nancy Grace, is very concerned.

“Any violence would be a sick coda to this whole sad affair," she tells me. "It should remind us that the innocent and the helpless -- be they children, the elderly, the disabled or nature's other creatures -- live at the mercy of powerful adults whose narcissism often silences their conscience. This case should cause us all to do some introspection and ask ourselves: what am I doing today to protect and defend the powerless among us?”

Even if that powerless person is now Anthony, herself. After her release from prison, the Tot Mom's current whereabouts are currently unknown.

What goes around comes back around ~ The article is questioning whether she is safer in prison, the answer is yes, but she will ultimately get what she deserves. Her life is going to be her own personal prison at this point! And eventually I'm sure she'll screw-up again!!...Out on time already served and the best part, on good behavior!!! What a joke!

wish she would have gotten some type of punishment for not reporting her daughter missing for a month...that's just insane and i don't understand why any mother would do that...

Yeah..She should have been in prison for the rest of her life....What a travesty of justice..I hope she spends the rest of her life looking over her shoulder in fear...

Why is she under the Entertainment section?? CASEY is NOT a celebrity and certainly not entertaining.

I hope her whearabouts stay unknown forever. but when the media circus dies down she's be on some talk show or selling her story or on reality show! Pretty soon people will forget about her past as a baby killer and thoes on the witch hunt now will be clamoring for her autograph, because she'll be famous, or Infamous. These days it doesn't seem to matter.

I don't think anyone will forget...just like OJ, (most of) the public didn't let him off the hook. I agree, she should stay in hiding forever! People will not forget a tragedy like this, no matter how many years go by!!

Are we supposed to feel sorry for this woman who got away with killing her own toddler. They jury might have been fooled and had no common sense what so ever but the majority of us do have common sense and know she killed her child. So I don't feel sorry for her plus the reality is she will make a lot of money from this.

As long as there are humans, someone will make money from this.
As I write, theres someone in hollywood, trying to get in touch with casey, to tell her side of the story. It never fails, it never will, as long as there a dollar to be made. Casey will end up rich, and still hated, and so will be who ever makes this movie...
Only in America.

Just saw on HLN/CNN that NBC, CBS and ABC are battling it out to be the first to get an interview. I sure hope it's not CBS. Got some shows on that network I don't want to quit.

I don't agree with the verdict, however, vigilante justice just isn't the answer. Vent your frustrations here, Facebook, or pretty much anywhere, so long as it is "Peaceful", as in: non-violent and non-confrontational. We need to pull ourselves together before more innocent people are hurt, because other people who share the same name will continue to be harassed, or have their car forced off the road -it's already happened-or worse ,while people who even LOOK like her will ALSO be harassed, -this has also happened.

Casey would be wise to make a statement herself or through her attorney in attempt to take some of the heat off a bit. But it won't be a Q & A. However, we'll probably never know how Caylee really died.

Casey Anthony would be wise to make a statement either by herself or through her attorney to take the heat off a little bit. But it won't be a question and answer type of news conference. No matter what she decides to do, we (the public) will probably never find out how Caylee, her daughter, actually died.

WHO CARES ANYMORE WHAT HAPPENS TO THIS MONSTER......THIS CASE WAS TRIED AND A VERDICT WAS REACHED.....I COULD CARE LESS IF SOMEONE SHOOTS HER DOWN......JUSTICE WAS NOT SERVED FOR THIS LITTLE GIRL......MAY CASEY LIVE IN TOTAL MISERY THE REST OF HER PATHETIC DAYS. i WILL NO LONGER KEEP UP WITH THIS SO CALLED NEWS STORY!! MAY SHE RUN FROM ALL HER HATERS FOREVER!!

As long as Casey is a free woman-be it rightfully so, or not-other people who share the same name will continue to be harassed-it's already happened-or beaten, murdered, etc..while people who even LOOK like her will ALSO be harassed, or beaten-this has also happened-or murdered, etc...Sooo where do we go from here!?...Is the media to blame for their coverage!?...Did our justice system fail us?..(This too has happened before-more than once), or are we, ourselves to blame. I'm gonna' have to say it's us. Now, before anyone goes too crazy, I don't agree with the verdict, HOWEVER, vigilante justice just isn't the answer. Vent your frustrations here, Facebook, or pretty much anywhere, so long as it is "Peaceful", as in: non-violent and non-confrontational. We need to pull ourselves together before more innocent people are hurt.
