Girl Crashes Into CTA Bus After Stealing Brother's SUV, Police Say: Nine Hurt

Cops: Heartbroken Girl Stole Brother's SUV, Crashed It Into CTA Bus

A 13-year-old girl crashed a stolen SUV into a CTA bus on Sunday morning, causing a multi-car accident that sent several people to the hospital with serious injuries.

A preliminary investigation suggests that the girl stole her brother's car because she was distraught over a boy, according to the Chicago Tribune.

In her clearly upset state, she collided with the No. 54 CIcero bus at the intersection of Cicero and Diversey in the Belmont-Cragin neighborhood. Two other cars then apparently struck the rear of the bus, the Tribune reports.

Five riders of the bus were injured in the incident, according to the Chicago Sun-Times. The child and three others in the two other cars involved were also hurt, although none of the injuries were life-threatening.

NBC Chicago says that the accident triggered an EMS Plan I, which sends at least five ambulances, a firetruck, and numerous other resources to the scene of the incident. The ambulances took the wounded to Our Lady of the Resurrection Medical Center, Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, and Norwegian-American Hospital.

Police officers expect to issue citations in the incident soon.
