UConn Shuttle Driver Charged In Student Death After Accident

The driver of a shuttle bus that killed a UConn student in March turned himself on Friday, after he was charged with negligent homicide.

Lukasz Gilewski, who has also a student at the school, could face up to 6 months in jail or a fine of $2,500 dollars for the accident that killed David Plamondon.

The Hartford Courant has more:

Plamondon, an aspiring doctor who was active in community service programs as well as a campus singing group, was crossing a campus intersection when he was hit around 8 p.m. Plamondon was pronounced dead at the scene.

Gilewski, a student who was authorized to drive the 39,000 pound vehicle, stopped after the collision and remained at the scene, campus police said. Plamondon was in a pedestrian crosswalk at Hillside Road and Alumni Drive when he was hit, police said.

"The first think that struck me about him was his good nature, his kind heart and his willingness to help others," Tom McGee, Plamondon's friend, told the Daily Campus in March.
