Michele Bachmann Cited Audrey Hepburn & Jackie O. As Style Inspirations

Making the Internet rounds today is an article on Michele Bachmann's style dating back to November 2006, in which the then-Minnesota state senator revealed two surprising style inspirations: Audrey Hepburn and Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis.

Bachmann told the Minneapolis Star Tribune, "I dress fairly simply," she said. "I like clean lines. I like solid colors. But I like an outfit to have a little kick."

She also mentioned that she takes fashion advice from her husband, Marcus, who's "got a good sense of style."

In other words, "Marcus Bachmann Has A Penchant For Women's Clothing," as Buzzfeed rebranded the unearthed article. Is this another targeted attack on Marcus' sexuality? A suggestion of cross-dressing?

Nope, just praise of his keen sartorial eye. Again, from the Minneapolis Star Tribune:

Before Vice President Dick Cheney's visit this past summer, Bachmann's husband, Marcus, hit the stores -- "he's got a good sense of style" -- and came home with "a sleek, simple hourglass dress with a yoke collar in winter white." He even bought a matching coat and shoes. "I just slipped it on."

We wonder if Marcus has had anything to do with Michele's recent shifts in style. The Daily Mail generously noted that the presidential hopeful has gotten a tad more sophisticated, with fashion publicist Pierce Mattie noting, "It's great to see a political candidate who does not wear her hair in a bun or hide her smoldering eye shadow with oversized spectacles..."

Bristol Palin might disagree: the famous daughter (and now author) accused Bachmann of knocking off her mother's style and "dressing like my mom."
