Nicola Formichetti: Old People Should Just Go Away

Nicola Formichetti Disses Old Folks

First it's fat people, now it's the elderly.

Nicola Formichetti, creative director of Mugler and stylist to Lady Gaga, misfired yet again in an interview with Elle Collections, as reported by the Daily Mail:

"I think old people should just be old and go away. It's not about being in the industry for ten years anymore: it's about good ideas."

Someone forgot to put on his Thinking Cap. While the avant garde designer is only be 34 years old, many of fashion's biggest names may as well be collecting their AARP cards: Ralph Lauren is 71, Giorgio Armani and Karl Lagerfeld are both 77 and Anna Wintour, whose opinion of Formichetti might matter most, is 61.

But Formichetti could end up backpedaling on the "old people" statement just as he did about his recent "fat people" comment.

In the July issue of W, the designer recalled a particularly difficult photoshoot and noted, "That was the last time I tried to work with fat people." The blogosphere immediately jumped on the quote, provoking Formichetti to take to Facebook to prove his plus-size professional credentials with a "No really, I love fat people!" campaign.

Fat people, old people...what's next -- babies?
