Ex-Teacher's Plea Of Not Guilty By Insanity For Sex With 5 Students Accepted, To Be Mentally Evaluated

Ex-Teacher's Plea Of 'Not Guilty, Just Insane' For Sex With 5 Students Accepted

A judge ruled Tuesday that former Ohio high school math teacher Stacy Schuler will be allowed to plead not guilty by reason of insanity on counts against her for having sex with five male students.

The approval was granted with the condition that her attorneys maintain the initial plea of not guilty, according to the Associated Press.

The 33-year-old was indicted on 16 counts of sexual battery and three counts of offenses involving underage persons, and changed her plea from not guilty to not guilty by reason of insanity last week.

The judge has pushed back Schuler's trial date of Aug. 8 and mandated that Schuler be mentally evaluated in accordance with her new plea.

Reports filed show the former teacher "was not mentally capable of determining the wrongfulness of her actions at the time of the alleged offenses," Cincinnati.com reports. A new trial date has not been determined.
