The 2011 MTV Video Music Awards may also be known as its more colloquial name: ladies' night.
Nominees for this year's VMAs were announced Wednesday night by Katy Perry, who leads the pack with an impressive nine VMA nominations, including “Video of the Year” and “Best Female Video,” for her explosive hit, “Firework." She also got nods for “Best Pop Video” for Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.), and “Best Special Effects” for “E.T.” featuring Kanye West.
Following Perry is Adele, whose "21" is the year's biggest selling album to date. Adele earned seven nominations for "Rolling In The Deep," putting her on par with Kanye West, who picked up nods for "Power and "All of The Lights" as well as his collaboration with Perry. Overall, collaborations had a strong showing, with 14 duo tracks garnering nominations outside of the specific collaboration category.
