Jason Wu, Rachel Roy...Grant Mower?

Mower is only 12 years old, but he has designed a dress especially for Michelle Obama that he hopes will win her over, reports KSL News.

The student from Flower Mound, Texas sketches and sews his own women's fashions, including a white one-strap gown that beat high school and college students' designs in a local fashion competition. His winning creation launched his journey into high fashion, landing him on "The Nate Berkus Show" and in the New York Times as a so-called "kiddie couturier."

While Texas designer Michael Faircloth has been mentoring him, Mower's mother, an interior designer, has helped him sew his extravagant visions. She also supports him when bullies at school make fun of his unconventional passion.

"He would look for validation, and not get it, so he'd come home from school and it would take him three hours for me to just get him back," his mother, Moanna, told KSL News. "And out of desperation I would do things like, 'Do you want to watch a Versace fashion show?'"

Or Valentino or Karl Lagerfeld, two of Mower's favorites. Like them, the young designer aspires to dress the most high-profile women -- beginning with Michelle Obama.

Mower headed to Park City, Utah Thursday with his orchid-inspired design in tow, determined to schedule a fitting with the first lady while she is in town for a July 26 presidential fundraiser.

Watching this adorably earnest and eloquent 12-year-old, we can't imagine how she could possibly say no.

Keep your eye on the prize. You have a gift not just a talent and you will use that gift to do other great things in this life, one success after another, and when it is all through maybe one day you will do something that will definitely improve the world - that paper dress was awesome.

Grant - you man, you are just too cool for school!!! I'm not advocating that you don't get an education, but your peers are just way behind the curve. You've already blown the curve (you'll figure that one out in high school, or your Mom can explain it. lol). That's why so many kids are hating.

Just remember how things happened with Jason Wu. He designed several dresses and sent them to her when she requested them. The first lady doesn't necessarily let a designer know that she is going to wear his or her dress. So get several ready for her ok? Who knows; one day you might be watching television and you see the President escorting the First Lady to an official event. She's also wearing your dress! Many blessings to you, and good luck! Success seems to be a certainty for your clothing design efforts.

"You've already blown the curve"

Care to speculate what he will blow in the future. Perhaps his mom can explain that as well.

I am completely uninterested in speculating about that. You ought to be ashamed of yourself. Why do you have to introduce a topic that has ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with this young man fulfilling a dream? Get your mind out of the gutter! You're embarrassing yourself.

I am pretty sure that Flotus would be honored to wear his dress and I am willing to bet that she will & soon!

Dear Grant,
Wow....beautiful cutting edge ideas....and they are all YOUR'S ! DON'T let anyone get in your way....think of it this way..they are identifying themselves, AND labeling themselves as small minded, low self esteem people publicly !! You keep going Grant ! If I had my "Girlish figure (back )" I would have given you a call !!

Best of luck, Grant. I think you will have a great future and please do not let those who do not understand your passion get to you.

Go with your dream young man. It takes a lot of talent and creativity to sew and design. I look forward to your name in the future. Do NOT let anyone bully you or tease you. They will fall behind and you will shine. Tell them at least you have a talent, and making something out of nothing. They are just jealous. Your kind of talent is awesome. Always follow your dream. God Bless and watch over you!!!

How awesome. What a fine young person. Mom and family must be commended for being so supportive. Whether or not our first lady chooses to wear his dress matters not as we shall see great works from this young man I suspect. Very inspirational and I too am glad to see all the positive messages today. Best regards Grant.

Don't suppose there is anyway to help Grant? Like write to The First Lady and encourage her to give him a chance?
01:54 PM on 07/22/2011
Go Grant! Don't ever stop doing what you love just because of what someone else has to say. The absolute best of luck in the future!! :D

Glad to see him do what he loves doing, in this world that's all we can hope for our children these days.

Grant, you are a remakable guy! Stay strong and don't let anyone tell you that you are not a great person because your ambitions are different from what some people call "the norm". I was bullied and ridiculed most of my school years because I too was a 'different' kind of boy. I am 54, so things were different then. Let all of that negitave just "roll off of your back". That is not easy, especially at your age, but DON"T let them make you hide who you are! You are AWSOME! My utmost respect to your Mom too!
