'The Hobbit': Go Behind the Scenes With Peter Jackson (VIDEO)

Fans of "The Hobbit", the highly anticipated two-part prequel to the "Lord of the Rings" trilogy, were pretty disappointed when the film's director Peter Jackson declined to discuss the project at Comic-Con this year. Jackson took to his Facebook page to break the news to fans, stating:

"Good news and bad news today. Bad news is that we won't be doing any Hobbit presentation. New Line and Warner Bros. were very happy to support a presentation, but I declined, simply because I felt it was too early. There's so much more of the films still to shoot."

But it wasn't all bad news. As Jackson previously mentioned, he also had some exciting news to share with anxious "Hobbit" fans.

"We've just finished a new video blog, covering a little more of the first block of shooting," posted Jackson. "So please enjoy this--at least you don't have to travel to San Deigo to see it!"

Jackson has been using his Facebook page to bring fans closer to all of the Middle Earth action, frequently posting pictures and videos that take viewers behind the scenes of the film. From production videos to the first photos of Ian McKellan as Gandalf, Jackson's Facebook page is a haven for hardcore "Hobbit" fans.

Orlando Bloom will be returning as Legolas and joining him, amongst other familiar faces, Elijah Wood as Frodo and Martin Freeman as Bilbo Baggins. Both films have tentative release dates set. The first film, titled "The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey," will be released on December 14, 2012. The second film, titled "The Hobbit: There and Back Again", is slated for release the following year, on December 13, 2013.
