Villa Epecuen is coming back to the surface.

Sitting at the edge of Lago Epecuen, the once-popular tourist destination became doomed in 1985 when rising water levels broke through an earthen dam, slowly sinking the village. According to the Atlantic, by 1993 over half the town the town was covered in at least 10 meters (33 feet) of salty water.

But then the climate changed.

The waters began to recede in 2009, slowly exposing the once-thriving town. The results of the re-emergence of the Atlantean town are eerie, and the images themselves -- which you can see in the slideshow below -- are a bit humbling.

This is what a post-apocalyptic world might look like.
