Schwarzenegger Family Tweets Support For Brother After Accident

Updated story.

Christopher Schwarzenegger, the 13-year-old son of Arnold Schwarzenegger and Maria Shriver, was hospitalized last weekend after a serious surfing accident, reports TMZ. He suffered multiple broken bones and a collapsed lung, and is currently in intensive care. TMZ's sources confirm that Shriver is a constant bedside presence while Schwarzenegger has been a "regular visitor." TMZ also notes that the entire family has pulled together as a unit to support each other while Christopher recovers.

The couple's older children Katherine and Patrick Schwarzenegger seemed to confirm the report via Twitter this morning. Patrick Schwarzenegger tweeted, "Thank you everyone for your messages about my brother. This kid is strongest kid I ever seen. Keep praying". Katherine echoed his gratitude minutes later in this tweet: "Thank you guys for ur concern and prayers for my baby brother! He's a tough little guy and getting better! Please keep praying for him! Xo".

Arnold Schwarzenegger and Maria Shriver later sent a joint statement to TMZ thanking supporters for their prayers, as well as the medical professionals who are caring for Christopher. From TMZ:

On behalf of our entire family, we want to sincerely thank the paramedics and lifeguards who responded so swiftly as well as the doctors, nurses, emergency room and hospital staff who have cared for our son. They have been extraordinary to him and to us. We thank everyone for their thoughts and prayers and ask for respect and privacy for Christopher and our family.

The Los Angeles County Fire Department also released the phone call that Shriver placed to emergency responders. The Associated Press reports:

Shriver was composed when she alerted emergency workers in a phone call - apparently from the beach - about 12:20 p.m. Sunday.

He "can't move off the beach - maybe like a broken ribs or something like that," Shriver tells a Los Angeles County Fire Department operator, according to a recording released by the department.

"He's having trouble breathing," she says.

Arnold Schwarzenegger and Maria Shriver have four children together: Katherine, Christina, Patrick and Christopher.
