WATCH: 12,000 'New York Times' Homepages In 7 Minutes

As noted on Boing Boing, this time lapse video of the New York Times website highlights seven minutes worth of homepage cover stories from September 2010 to July 2011. The video contains over 12,000 screenshots including major news stories like the rescue of the Chilean miners and the tsunami in Japan; at these major event points, 00:39 and 4:59 respectively, and others, the time lapse slows for maximum effect.

So, of all the beautiful images to collect into a time lapse, why a newspaper website homepage? Creator - and self-proclaimed "Chief Exporter of Awesome" Phillip Mendonça-Vieira cited the infamous November 3rd, 1948 Chicago Tribune cover story, "Dewey Defeats Truman."

"Traditionally, the purpose of a newspaper's front page was to entice the reader into delving further into the publication. As a consequence, they are roughly equivalent with whatever the editors thought were the most relevant news items of the day," Mendonça-Vieira notes on his website. "That said, moments like this one are no longer possible."
