Flu Breaks Out At Air Force Academy, At Least 240 Affected

Several Hundred Air Force Cadets Flying Low After Virus Outbreak

The Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs reported Tuesday that approximately 240 cadets there have come down with the flu.

"The health and safety of our cadets and all those who live and work at the Air Force Academy is our top priority," said Superintendent Lt. Gen. Mike Gould in press release from the Academy's Public Affairs office. "We understand this is a serious matter, and we're taking steps to inform Academy personnel and the community of the precautions necessary to ensure their safety."

The Gazette reports that none of the cadets have been hospitalized. Most of the ill are among the incoming class of 1,100 who arrived at the Academy last month.

Officials at the Academy told 7News they are unsure of the source of the virus.
