Water parks in Mumbai offer thrills of the H20 variety for families looking for exhilirating ways to cool off from the Indian sun. There are riveting water coasters, a Bollywood-inspired rain dance or two and plenty of good old-fashioned slipping and sliding. Water Kingdom
Billed as Asia's largest water park,
-- in combination with its neighbor, the popular EsselWorld theme park -- attracts 1.8 million visitors each year. Located about 22 miles from the center of Mumbai, the water park has 79 slides and rides of all thrill and splash levels. Families can enjoy summer concerts from such Bollywood entertainers as Shweta Pandit and experience the annual Aqua Holi party, with appearances by the park's Fab5 mascots.
Built For Speed
drops thrill-seeking riders down seven stories, reaching speeds of up to 40 miles an hour. The slide is centered on sleds, giving guests a jolt of excitement as they plummet downward.
Family Fun
There are water-slide options here for both adults and children. In the Probably Not For Kids Dept., there's
, which twists and turns the entire way down. The more-child-friendly Turbo Thriller offers a direct route to the bottom. A massive and idyllic wave pool called the
draws people of all ages -- it's so large, it has a variety of scenic, spots such as Bay Watch Tower, Cascade-Cave and Love Boat Tower.
Exotic Cuisine
Multiple food options are available on site, including South Indian vegetarian fare, Chinese non-vegetarian and popular street food from a variety of cuisines. Dessert lovers have plenty to choose from, as well, including ice cream, milk lollies and sundaes.
Safety Record
While safety records are hard to come by, the
magazine declared Water Kingdom a safe atmosphere in 2003. No other accidents came up in searches of local newspapers or media outlets.

Suraj Water Park
Suraj Water Park is a five-time winner in the Indian Limca Book of Records for having the largest man-made fibreglass cave. The water park, which sits on 17 acres, is adorned with massive mermaids 24-feet high, and has traditional elements, such as a carved-rock waterfall called Har Har Gange and a statue of Lord Shiva atop a small slide for children.
Slides For Kids And Adults
The Rainbow Slides offers 16 slippery rides for a variety of age groups. Kids can hop on the smaller slides, while adults can whoosh down the curvier, speedier ones. All of the slides empty back into the same pool, where families can splash together.
Singing In The Rain
The Ulat Palat is a 140-foot slide that steeply inches downward for an exciting trip to the bottom. The Rim-Zim Baarish Hall caters to dancing enthusiasts with a rain shower. The Har Har Gange is an 82-foot-high waterfall that circulates an astonishing 500,000 liters of water per minute. Guests that need a break from the water can check out the Museum of Antique Locks, which houses about 1800 locks of old treasure boxes, houses and havelis.
Vegetarian Food
This traditional attraction serves only pure vegetarian fast food at its blue-shed fast-food restaurant. Outside food is not permitted.
Safety Record
While there are not many records of accidents, some
claim that small injuries and fractures have occurred onsite. No word on how these injuries were handled.
