Abdulhakim Muhammad: Arkansas Soldier Shooter's Letter To FBI Claims He Targeted Little Rock Rabbi Days Before Murder

Soldier Shooters Fbi Note

JEANNIE NUSS   07/29/11 04:14 AM ET   AP

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — A man who pleaded guilty to shooting two soldiers outside a military recruiting station in Arkansas said he also shot at the home of a rabbi in Little Rock days earlier, according to a letter he wrote to the FBI.

In the letter obtained by The Associated Press under a Freedom of Information Act request, Abdulhakim Muhammad said he fired 10 rounds at the home of Rabbi Eugene Levy days before he fatally shot Pvt. William Andrew Long and wounded Pvt. Quinton Ezeagwula in June 2009.

A judge sentenced Muhammad to life in prison without parole this week after prosecutors accepted his plea agreement during his capital murder trial for killing Long and hurting Ezeagwula.

In the letter, dated November 24, 2009, Muhammad said he targeted Levy's house after researching Jewish leaders in Little Rock, Nashville, Tenn., and his hometown of Memphis, where he was born by the name Carlos Bledsoe. He changed his name after converting to Islam in college.

"Figured the FBI wasn't watching me anymore," he wrote. "I started my Plans to Attack, recruitment centers, Jewish organizations, across America..." He said he bought rifles, a pistol, ammunition and materials to make Molotov cocktails.

Then, shortly after midnight May 30, Muhammad said he shot at Levy's house from his truck using a .22-caliber rifle.

"The spent rounds were found during search," he wrote.

Levy's wife, Bobbye Levy, said FBI agents visited their home sometime in June after Muhammad was arrested. But she said she didn't hear any gunshots or find any damage to the house.

"We never knew anything about it until the FBI showed up," she said.

She wasn't sure whether the agents found any remnants of a shooting outside. FBI spokesman Steve Frazier declined to comment.

Levy said and her husband, who's a rabbi at Temple B'nai Israel in Little Rock, have never received any threatening letters or phone calls.

Muhammad said he then drove to Memphis and later Nashville to the homes of two other rabbis. In Nashville, he said he drove to a Jewish community center, "but found there were too many children around so I aborted that."

So, the self-professed jihadist said he kept driving until he came to a recruitment center in Florence, Ky., but found it was closed.

He decided to go back to Little Rock to revise his plan, and said he drove overnight to Nashville. About 2 a.m. on June 1, Muhammad said he decided to firebomb another rabbi's house. He said he lobbed a Molotov cocktail at the home, but the fire blew out mid-air.

"Another attempt gone sour," he wrote.

He made it to Little Rock that morning and spotted two uniformed soldiers outside a military recruiting center in Little Rock. He said he considered firing at them from afar, but decided to get closer so he wouldn't miss.

He fired an assault rifle at Long and Ezeagwula, who were smoking cigarettes outside. They had recently completed basic training and decided to volunteer as recruiters. Neither had seen combat.

Muhammad rolled down the window and fired an assault rifle. Ezeagwula, then 18, watched his friend fall to the ground as the bullets hit them. In the parking lot, Long's mother, Janet Long, heard the gunshots.

In his letter to the FBI, Muhammad confessed to his actions, taking full responsibility and professing ties to al-Qaida. He told The Associated Press that the shootings were justified because of U.S. military actions in the Middle East.

"I ask to be punish by lethal injection and to be shown no respite," he wrote to the FBI.

"Your ignorance failed to mention the most decorated USA combat unit in Nazi Europe were Japanese Americans."...............Your ignorance failed to mention that in the detainment camps they really did find Japanese spies - and that all of the soldiers in the 442 were American born. The American Muslims who seem bent on killing people switch their allegiance as adults. The two DC snipers, this boob and the most recent one at Ft. Hood. While the idea of locking up all Muslims is idiotic, the converse is equally idiotic and appears to be government policy. During WWII, American Bundists were actively investigate by the FBI because they had German last names and showed sympathy to Germany. Charles Lindbergh and Joe Kennedy were also investigated. Meaning the smartest policy is to investigate people with specific profiles - but not automatically a single profile. As it is, the DC snipers killed several people during a time when the "profilers" were looking for Janet Napolitano's idea of a domestic terrorist - a white, middle aged male.

I fail to see any problems. There was a fair trial, plea deal to speed justice,
and tonight another convicted killer has time to think about a lifetime without liberty.

He thought the FBI was no longer watching him. Is this because he converted to Islam in college? Is this because he had made threats before? I wish some of the investigating reporters at HP would actually find out answers for all of us.
Maybe to much to wish for!

Why was someone named "Abdulhakim Muhammad" walking around in our country. This is where we fail. Why have we not detained all of the muslims in our country like we did to the Japanse in the World War. It is not safe to allow them to walk the streets. What is going on here? Why are we being such wimps...

Because first, we live (supposedly) in a free country with freedom of speech, etc.. Are you thinking straight??? You can't, nor should someone say they can't be here because of their name. Muslims ARE NOT THE PROBLEM. You have some extremist's just like in any group. Most Muslims are family oriented people, who do not like extremist's, nor the Al Queda either. American Soldier's came to the defense of Kuwait when it was attacked in the 90's by Iraq. And Kuwait is mostly Muslim. America has many Muslim friends in the world and in our country and many are born here & are American citizens. Get an education, and stop hating people based on religion, color, names, or anything except as an individual you may not like. There are over a BILLION Muslims in the world, if they were all evil we all would be dead by now. There are good & bad in every group of people. Many Christians have been Bombers here in our country also. Oklahoma ring a bell???

Thank you kam2391.
Your ignorance failed to mention the most decorated
USA combat unit in Nazi Europe were Japanese Americans.
One of them was later an Elected Senator from Hawaii.
Did you earn any military medals, get elected to Senator,
or get dropped head-first every Monday by your mama?

I am not racist against Japanese, I don't get your point... It was just not safe to have them running around while we were at war with Japan. So, we locked them up, and that was the right thing to do. Look, plain and simple things like this would not happen if we got them out of here or locked them up. Muslims are very dangerous in general. Have you read the Koran? If you have not then you need to before you form an opinion! Other wise you have no idea what you are talking about.

If he asks "to be punish by lethal injection and to be shown no respite" then why did he accept a plea deal for life without parole?

Death is scarier when you face it.
