Ame Deal, Arizona 10-Year-Old, Killed By Family For Taking Popsicle: Police

Ame Deal

The family of a 10-year-old found dead in a trunk outside an Arizona home initially claimed the child died while playing hide-and-seek. But investigators now believe Ame Deal suffocated after her family locked her in the box because she took a popsicle from the freezer without permission.

Phoenix police claim Deal's grandmother, aunt and two cousins regularly subjected the child to horrific treatment, ultimately culminating in her July 12 death.

"This child died at the hands of those who were supposed to love and care for her. ... This case has turned the stomachs of some of our most seasoned detectives," said Phoenix Police spokesman Sergeant Trent Crump in a statement posted on the city's website.

Deal's passing was classified as a "death unknown" until July 28, according to the police press release.

But after Deal's cousin Samantha Allen, 23, and her husband, John Allen, 23, admitted putting the child in the trunk and padlocking it, authorities charged the couple with first degree murder.

John Allen was allegedly angry with Deal because she had taken a popsicle from the freezer, AZFamily reports.

WATCH:

The victim's aunt, Cynthia Stoltzmann, 44, and grandmother, Judith Deal, 62, were charged with child abuse and kidnapping after reportedly admitting to locking the child in the box on previous occasions.

Witnesses told investigators the child was regularly punished by being locked in the trunk. They also saw the caregivers force Deal to eat dog feces as punishment, crush cans barefoot and exercise outdoors in "extreme measures," according to ABC15.

Deal's aunt allegedly confessed to putting hot sauce in the child's mouth, striking her with a paddle dubbed "Butt Buster" and ordering the child to sleep on the floor of a stall shower because she had a problem with wetting the bed, the news station reports.

Deal, who weighed just 59 pounds and was discovered in soiled clothing, died in a box that measured less than 3 feet long, 14 inches wide and one foot tall, according to The New York Daily News.

Twelve children who lived at the residence have been taken into custody by Child Protective Services, ABC15 reports.

The whereabouts of the child's mother are unknown and authorities are currently trying to locate Deal's biological father.

Such a shame since the deceased little girl looks like she was the only normal one out of the bunch. Tragedies like this are why I have become a firm believer in the old adage "an eye for an eye"; so the rest should be self explanatory as to what I think should happen to these "things".

What the heck is wrong with this picture?? 12 kids living in the house, at least one was abused, and no one figured anything out? Teachers didn't think anything of a 59 lb 10 year old? No one saw anything, no one did anything, no one reported anything? This is a tragic mess. Can we say 'burn in hell'? Yeah...I'm thinking they will. And not just the family members who did this, but everyone who stood back and let it happen.

Does anybody know when these people are going to trial? And if I will be able to watch it? On InSession or something.

Two words: DEATH PENALTY. For all involved.

So she was put in a box outside in the Arizona heat in July, while 4 adult blood relatives sat in the kitchen counting Popsicles? This is beyond sick. Nobody wants to stick their neck out and do the right thing anymore. Just sit back and watch a child being subjected to Russian Roulette until 1 day - BANG! And the neighbors say, "we suspected abuse!" Really Geniuses?? What was your first clue? I've called the police because a dog was locked in a hot car, and frankly was prepared to push the window in if they didn't arrive quickly.

PEOPLE...when you suspect child abuse is occuring, you MUST tell the authorities. If you aren't part of the solution, you are part of the problem. Too many people just don't want to "get involved." These neighbors could possibly have saved this little girl's life. What other horrors and brutality did she suffer at the hands of these animals? Every last one of them deserves NOTHING LESS than to spend eternity in prison!

It's call Meth. Turns people into monsters inside and out.

The saddest thing in the world is how we mistreat our children. We do not respect or value our children. We will rescue a stray dog but we wont help an abused child. The society that we live in is very twisted: A Arizona man that beat his son, burned his hands and put him in the oven was given 4months of weekends only jail time, Michael Vicks got 18 months for dog fighting because it was extreme abuse of the dogs. WOULD SOMEONE TELL ME WHERE THE JUSTICE FOR OUR CHILDREN IS IN THIS. We had better wake up and pay attention, we are ALL accountable for our children, NO ONE IS EXCUSED>

AMEN. It is almost like our justice system gets off on children being hurt. I think that those who intentionally hurt children should be tortured themselves. This family will probably get off just like the Casey Anthony family did.. HOW SICK

Wow...sickening...and I'm talking about the "witnesses and neighbors". It is unfathomable that they could suspect abuse of a child and do nothng. How...how...how....do they sleep at night??Everyone of them should be dying of shame. Nothing they can say can justify or excuse their silence. They forfieted their humanity, as far as I'm concerned, and they're as guilty as the family members who abused this child. They were silent accomplices.

WTF is wrong with people, how could people witness this and not call police??? Everyone needs to be informed that you can call 1-800-4-A-CHILD, and remain anonymous.

Sadly people feel like they have to be able to prove abuse before they call. But people are to call when they SUSPECT abuse. Having been with children services I can tell you that even doctors fail to call for this reason.

When I was a kid, my dad was suspected of child abuse when I broke my arm [which was entirely my own idiotic fault for tying an elastic jump rope to my waist and the top of the slide in the back yard and attempting to "mountain climb"]. Then again when I got a gash above my right eye from tripping over my sister's back pack and hitting the coffee table.

More people need to be like the doctors in those incidents and call when they suspect child abuse. Even if it turns out to be just a case of childhood recklessness like my incidents, it lets people know you care.

I can't be more explicit here to say that all persons on camera who express a knowledge of the abuse must be held accountable. Jacyee D., also.

If we do not act against known abuse before a death we cause the death. If we do not act against known abuse we perpetuate acceptance for abuse.

I am bare bones honest here. I hate every person who shrugs his shoulders. hate. You can do something. Because you fail to, I want every person who admits on camera they knew about the abuse yet failed to report it held accountable.

This story just breaks my heart. This little baby never knew love in her life, I hope she has found it now.

I would like to believe there is a Heaven and I would love to believe that she is there and my grandparents are taking excellent care of her.

every neighbor, every person who knew (and they admit knowing on camera) must be held accountable for the death of this child.

mahatma gandhisaid' "non co-operation with evil is a sacred duty" this was evil and people new it...Buddha said the thing that set humans apart from animals is their concious ability to know the difference between right and wrong. The people who knew abuse was taking place the family that performed the abuse are ANIMALS.

Lock 'em in a parked car and surround it with mirrors so they can watch themselves "go to sleep."

I'm truly sickened by these kinds of monsters.
