Drew Barrymore And Best Coast: Actress Directs Music Video For The Indie Band

Drew Barrymore Directed A Best Coast Music Video

How do Drew Barrymore and indie, surf rock band Best Coast come together? Well, in a world where Francis Ford Coppola and Dan Deacon can collaborate, it's clear the degrees of separation between Hollywood and niche indie outfits has narrowed a bit.

In an interview with Rolling Stone last month, Best Coast frontwoman Bethany Cosentino explained how their worlds collided.

"I met Drew Barrymore at our show in L.A. at the Music Box," Cosentino said. "She ended up coming backstage and we hung out, and she's like the nicest, most down-to-earth person I've ever met."

They got to talking about how they could collaborate, and luck would have it Barrymore is pairing up with an MTV program that connects directors and musicians.

"I don't want to spoil the video, but it has a very cool concept," Cosentino said. "Drew Barrymore came up with a really cool idea."

The video drops next Tuesday, Aug. 2, on MTV, but for now the spoiler is in. The track is "Our Deal" off Crazy for You, and Barrymore's cool concept is a 50s, "Rebel Without a Cause" teen gang vibe. Given the tone, the young stars featured in the video are a crew of semi-famous actors -- Chloe Moretz from "Kick-Ass," Miranda Cosgrove, of "iCarly" fame, Alia Shawkat -- Maeby from "Arrested Development"! -- and Tyler Posey from "Teen Wolf."
