I already made a video of my breakover moment, when I had to report the cover-up of corruption in high places: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M4VGoXV5vYg Can I still be considered for the series? On May 25, 2011 I testified before the European Parliament, and the Chairman of the European Parliament's Committee on Budget Control wrote me on June 1, 2011:
It is with great pleasure that I write to thank you for your presentation during the
hearing "The Effectiveness of Whistleblowing" on 25 May 2011 and for your
participation in the exchange of views that followed.
I share the opinion expressed by the Members of the Committee that it was very
interesting and inspiring to learn about your case at the World Bank and especially the
ideas you have presented to us to make whistleblowing more effective.
The objective of the hearing was to gain evidence as basis for possible future
legislative actions. I believe that this objective was achieved and that the outcome of
the hearing will be of considerable importance for the future work of the Committee.
I thank you again for your in-put and participation.

Hey Nora,

I am looking forward to hearing the stories of the people who come forward and wondering if this is a "for women only" kind of a thing. I am a man and have had two major "breakovers" as you call them.

One when I walked away from my Medical Practice to become an entrepreneur at the age of 40 and another at 51 when my 24 year marriage came to an end. Both were near compete reinventions of who I am and wild rides.

We will all have "Breakovers" - it is inevitable on this human journey. I am looking forward to the series.

I had a breakover moment and I'm a guy. As we passed by a well know kiddie fast food and game place my 7 year old daughter said "Mom's boyfriends like to take us to Chuckie Cheese." That's when I found out my wife was having affairs while I was a sea. I had a lot to reconsider. Guess who didn't even contest my getting custody of our two children. Guess who didn't get taken to the cleaners by divorce lawyers.

Would someone happen to know if there's a notably significant increase in marriages breaking apart, separating, divorcing?

Not to be snarky, but sometimes it works to just cut and paste the question into google.

Funny word, "snarky". It's a kind word which still gets the point across. I'll be using it a bit more. I google so many things every day that, quite honestly, in the reaching of the moment, I forgot.

Thanks for the previous email.

Maybe the relationship couldn't work because you "invented" yourself in the first place.
Don't mind your premise about life changing crises and decisions but I hate the term "reinvent yourself." It's the antithesis of authenticity.

I don't understand how this works. How is a 500-word email going to be turned into a video? Is HuffPo sending out cameramen?

More like five or six plane tickets after a phone interview. It'll probably help to send a pic and live near a major flight hub.

After my divorce, I was so despondent that I began drowning my sorrows in pudding. It was a dark time, so chocolate was my pudding of choice.

Finally, at the suggestion of a friend, I went to a meeting of Puddingheads Anonymous. I met someone there, and now we're in love. We still eat pudding, bu we limit ourselves to two servings a day.

I think she has a hangover, not a breakover.

My breakover moment was when I was 18 and left home to live in a group home for homeless girls. That's when I realized my suburban hothouse flower upbringing wasn't that bad. Sorry for the 'navel gazing' but it was my Oprah Aha/Breakover moment. I put on my big girl panties but learned a lot in that six months. I moved back home and finished high school. My other breakover moment was when I finished nursing school at the age of 32. I went through a lot to get there: food stamps, gov't cheese, etc.

Really? What's wrong? Not enough mindless web pages on the Internet for you to click through?

I like the idea. After moving out on my own at 17 and struggling financially for many years, I went back to school in my mid-thirties -- night school for eight years while working full-time -- and ended up with a whole new career at triple the salary and zero debt. I haven't had a serious problem with money since that decision to start over and change everything.

I like hearing about how others have reshaped their lives for the better. It's inspirational.

Oh please.

Enough with the navel-gazing.

Buck up, shut up and get on with it.
