Wow. So many posters missed the crucial point: she did not consent. Participants in paintball and other shooting games give consent to participate in the activity. If a person does not consent, then doing the activity to the non-consenting person is a crime. With good reason.

Funny thing, that consent. Kicks in hard, even for men, when you haven't said 'yes.' In my work, I've seen a number of strong, tough men cry about what was done to them without their consent. Big, wrenching sobs. But some/many of the sn.ide posters are gun rights tro.lls, who couldn't care less about people.

Any idea why Channel 7 sent her 60 miles away to stand by the freeway and talk about the weather?

What is wrong with those idiots? 16 and 17 is old enough to know better than to shoot a bb gun at someone let alone someone giving a news report on tv. I don't even have words to describe the depth of their stupidity.

Here in So-Cal we often refer to Fontana, where the incident occurred as "Fontucky".
Plenty of gangs, Kaiser Steel had a big operation and Hells Angels reportedly began there.

My parents would've beat my butt for that one. ...lol Their embarrassment of having to get me out of jail would've added to it.

Good times. ...lol

as my parents put it, you had better pray if you ever get arrested, that the police keep you. because, you won't want to go home.

Amazing! Did she ever take that in stride! After saying "look at the blood" she continued with her report anyway.

BB gun notwithstanding - suppose it had hit her in an eye instead of her hand? Those who would minimize this should think about that.
02:28 PM on 08/01/2011
It really is too bad that BB guns don't have ways to aim them, so these hooligans hit the body part they intended to shoot rather than the eyes.

Why is it always the eyes? Is it because of A Christmas Story?

What kinda plain ol' bald-faced malarky is your comment?

I've shot plenty of bb guns -- noon of them had a scatter of less than a foot at 20 feet.
02:13 AM on 08/02/2011
Sorry, but I hear her comment at :11 as being something closer to "look at the flood" and not "...the blood."

The piece was about heavy downpours and if the quote she made relates to flooding and not her own blood, I'd say that she really DID take it in stride and I think she did.

Sensationalism of the news is so out of control. It's why I choose to read it rather than watch it.

Fonatana, founded in 1913 demographic indicates a diversity of cultures in an over crowded area. Seems to be a moderate to low income area, a majority of young people, a deficit of males and abundance of females- ONCE AGAIN HP/AOL provide merely sketchy incomplete detail on an occurrence they've decided to make national news...HP/AOL is yellow tabloid partial news, INCOMPETENT PARTIAL REPORTS. Please, in the public interest provide full and accurate reporting; i. e., DA's questioning and statements by TV crew, the criminals, their families and backgrounds..It helps to understand what sort of families these types come from so we might avoid them..HP/AOL sensationalist yellow tabloid rag style internet 'reporting'(?). What are the Huff Post and AOL sources for these reports, or do they HACK if?

I have two friends who own homes in Fontana; they each possess a master's degree.
To say that Fontana is but one demographic or all neighborhoods are identical is inaccurate.
Fontucky does have some nice neighborhoods and yes, ghettos, farms and plenty of gang influence.

But really, is this incident not an indication of our society's degradation as a whole?
Thirty years ago reporters could wander into Cabrini Green in Chicago by day and not fear
they'd be attacked (so did the mayor for that matter).

Not sure if really mattered where it happened as random violence is just too common in our culture.

Excellent post points-My post is accurate, it begins by stating Fontana has a DIVERSITY OF CULTURES-in no way suggesting Fontana's neighborhoods are identical, please review. Your post in defense of Fontana is so much more revealing, (some) nice neighborhoods, GHETTOS, farms and PLENTY OF GANG INFLUENCE...excellent defense and you've two friends living in the area with Masters Degree's,(?)

HP churches up yet another article with brilliant headlines and phrases...

"Came under fire..." Really? This isnt 'Nam...

Yes, good thing it wasnt a real gun, but seriously.. Dont draw people in with shocking headlines and then soften the blow with a reduced reality. Save those headlines for when it ACTUALLY happens. I hate when the media cries wolf..

I agree. From the title you would have thought it was more than a BB gun. I am glad that is all that it was, but seriously the title is misleading

BB guns are real guns. They shoot real projectiles, some as fast as 1200 feet per second, and do real damage. Just because the propellant is compressed air and not expanding incendiary powder doesn't make it a toy.

Still, the article headline and front page link, as well the language was pretty voltatile...Being shot in the hand by a BB gun is not grounds for an article claiming to be more intense than it was. No ones life has even been at stake for after being shot in the hand with a BB gun.

I am also wondering if this will be a misdemeanor or a felony. And will they be tried in juvenile court or be adjudicated to an adult due to their age. And regarding their age, they should have known better.

I wonder too how they will be charged and you are definately right, they should have known better by the age of 17 and had the self discipline to do better.

Just noticed your bio...and it sounds good to me.... ;-)
