'Absolut Blank': Artists Design Vodka Bottles

There's a fine line between great advertising and arts patronage. When a brand wants to remain in customers' minds, one of the most effective ways to do so can be to give artists a platform to create memorable images. As Absolut Vodka's new initiative, Absolut Blank, seems to show, the results of such corporate commissions can be far from sterile.

The trailer for the project, shown below, gives a quick look at the artists creating the pieces in various media based around a blank template of an Absolut bottle. UK-based illustrator David Bray turns the template into a mysterious woman and her beehive hairdo, while Brazilian illustrator Fernado Chamarelli's bottle becomes a colorful arrangement of totemic animals.

The commercialization/exploitation of talent to produce decent images in order to promote stuff that wipes out your consciousness is a good summary of the present state of global culture. Cheers.
