Carla Bruni & Pete Doherty Are Friends: Report

NEW FRIENDS?

Today in rumors that most likely aren't true, but we hope result in some sort of song and/or dance number: French first lady Carla Bruni has befriended Libertines and Babyshambles frontman (and Kate Moss' ex-boyfriend) Pete Doherty.

The most reputable of the Britain's louche tabloids, the Sunday Mirror, reports that the pair first met in Paris last month after Doherty was released from jail, serving a thee-month sentence for cocaine possession.

Doherty's manager Andrew Boyd confirmed the couple's "connection," and a source told the Mirror, "They've met up several times and really hit it off....Although their backgrounds may seem different they have an awful lot in common and chat endlessly about music, poetry, fashion and life. Carla is just the type of woman Pete likes -- intelligent, sophisticated and, of course, extremely beautiful."

Cue the buzz about them recording down a track together. If so, it won't be anytime soon. Carla previously explained to Nice Matin (and, here, we translate): "I've made an album, but it's not at all finished due to this future happiness, unexpected and unplanned [read: the baby inside of her]. I realized that I couldn't promote the album for several months, but I didn't table it. It's just put on hold for now."

Well, should she need any help during the upcoming months, Doherty will be at her back and call. NME.com writes that the rocker is set for a French tour later this year -- "He's got dates in Paris, Toulouse, Annemasse, Monaco, Lyon, Rouen. Amiens and St Quentin booked in across September, October and November."
