Darren Criss In 'Imogen': Kristen Wiig's Younger Love Interest

Criss Wiig

Darren Criss made his name on TV playing love interest to Chris Colfer, and now, he'll get a big screen turn by romancing Kristen Wiig.

Not a bad start to a career.

NY Magazine's Vulture Blog confirms that Criss has joined the cast of "Imogen," Wiig's passion project dark comedy followup to her mega-success, "Bridesmaids." Wiig will star as a semi-successful playwright who fakes a suicide attempt to get the attention of an ex-boyfriend; the plan goes awry, of course, putting her back living in the New Jersey home of her mother, a drug addict to be played by Annette Bening.

According to producer Celine Rattray, Criss will take on the role of a "a younger love interest," when Wiig returns to Jersey.

Criss this summer received a promotion to series regular on "Glee," part of the casting commotion that has rocked the show for the past few months. He'll also replace Daniel Radcliffe for a run on Broadway's "How To Succeed In Business Without Really Trying."

I actually think Darren is a great actor, comedy especially is his thing and so i think he will do very well in this.Good for him to get cast in a film with the always impressive Annette Bening.
I also believe most of comments you read dissin Darren are teenage girls who are still boohoo'ing because that blond kid did not get promoted on glee.

Criss has a lot more pizzazz and appeal than the blond kid, who is two years younger and did not have Criss' acting training (at the U. of Michigan). Maybe in a few years the blond kid will do better in acting circles, but he is a fine singer and musician.

How can Annette be her mother? Isn't she a tad too young? They are about 15 years apart in age. Add in the fact that Wiig looks older than what she is and it doesn't sound plausible.

Adam Sandler's playing Andy Samberg's father in I HATE YOU DAD despite the fact their age difference is only 12 years. And Lea Thompson's younger than Michael J. Fox yet she played his mother.

But Lea Thompson was cast to play his mother as a teenager. They couldn't really cast someone older and then put them through hair and makeup to look younger for most of the film. It worked better the other way around.

The younger Thompson played Fox's mother because Fox's character went BACK IN TIME, explaining why the movie is called "BACK TO THE FUTURE." Sheesh.

I dunno, was just informed Prince Harry was wearing denim jeans and a denim jacket... at the same time! That one made the front page.

Extreme Eugene has special powers where he can accurately predict the shelf-life of "up and coming" movie starlets. Wiig has peaked and has only ski slopes ahead of her, career wise. Will she choose the fastest route, the "Black Diamond" trail to her descent into oblivion, or will she milk this bull for all its worth, and take predictable romantic comedies with white bread Paul Rudd or Ryan Gossling or some other generic pretty boy without acting skills?

This should be a great comedic pairing, not just the two who are so cuuuuute together, but also enough opposites to make a genuine chemistry do its magic. Looking forward -- we so love rom-comedies!!

Very happy for Darren. I saw him in concert twice last month (once as himself and once as part of the Glee tour). He is a very charismatic performer with many musical talents (musician, composer, singer, etc.) I just got tickets for his performance in How To Succeed in January and am pleased that he was able to land a good role for his movie debut, instead of the usual teen comedy.
